Using GIMP in China - Pango-WARNING (recursed)

Submitted by losethegame on December 28, 2007 - 7:39am

I'm trying to use GIMP Portable (in English) on computers with Windows in Chinese. When I try to save a file I get the message:

Pango-WARNING (recursed) **: Couldn't load font "[chinese characters] 9" falling back to "Sans 9" aborting...

After clicking (what I assume is) OK I get a runtime error and GIMP closes down...

GIMP install/uninstall failure

Submitted by JoelH on November 29, 2007 - 8:59pm

I installed GimpPortable in \System\Apps\GimpPortable.
Clicking on GimpPortable.exe launches the program fine.

Used Shortcut Creator to create a shortcut, but clicking the icon returns this message:
"An error occurred while trying to start the selected program."

Tried to "update" the GIMP shortcut, assuming I had made an error in the path.
SC created a second shortcut that also doesn't work.

Tried to uninstall both instances and get the message:
"Uninstall of GIMP.u3p failed."

Thanks,
Joel

GIMPshop

I know there is GIMP portable, but I was wondering if you guys would mind making a portable version of GIMPshop. I like GIMP, it is a nice image editor, but those 3 separate windows really bug me. So I did some research and found GIMPshop which is basically GIMP put into one single app window (just like photoshop or pixel). Looking forward to you answer. Cheers!!!

GIMP: Splash Screen Removal

Submitted by derwydd on November 21, 2007 - 11:48am

I know this is a talked about before question.

I downloaded the NSIS compiler and plugins. I changed the:

\GIMPPortable\Other\GIMPPortableSource\GimpPortable.ini to have the line ->
DisableSplashScreen=true

I opened and compiled \GIMPPortable\Other\GIMPPortableSource\GimpPortable.nsi

moved GimpPortable.exe to \GIMPPortable\

The splash screen still comes up.

What am I doing wrong?

Sorry for the same question...

Is it possible to manually update GIMP Portable?

Submitted by onionguy92 on November 18, 2007 - 7:58pm

Now, I know I'm not supposed to ask for or about updates, but would it at all be possible for me to manually update my GIMP Portable to 2.4.1? For instance, in the GIMP Portable 2.2.17 directory, replacing the GIMP files with files from the standard app GIMP 2.4.1? As far as I know, file locations haven't really changed. Because if all the portable app needs to do is reference the app in a local manner and run it in a local manner, then I think it should work.

GIMP Portable 2.4.1 (November 8, 2007)

[Link to closed source software removed by moderator JTH. First, clones and forks can not be self-promoted. Second, the launcher included with this package it closed source, so this software can not be promoted here.]

running this version from cd you can also edit large immages (does not work for gimp portable 2.2.17)

GIMP: How do you install the help file?

Submitted by gimpy on October 27, 2007 - 7:35pm

I downloaded it, a large (70mb) file and, in the absence of any instruction as to where it should go, I copied it into the main Gimp folder on my USB drive, where the Gimp program is contained. When I use the Gimp program and click on "Help" it still says "file not found"? Dunowot else to do. I scoured the Gimp web site for information on how to install the help file, but found nothing after an hour of looking. Any suggestion appreciated! Sad

GIMP Portable freezes when using keyboard shortcuts

Submitted by eltonbrad on October 27, 2007 - 2:52am

I've got no idea of what is happens, but when I used to have GIMP Portable 2.2.13, it would freeze whenever I use keyboard shortcuts as simple as Copy or Past. I've downloaded the latest GIMP Portable and I still have the same problem. I checked the Forums for the same problem but no one else seems to have problems with it. I also checked the Support page and still nothing was found. Then whenever I try doing something to get out of it, Windows brings up one of those messages saying that you can send a report.

GIMP: Loading Menus

Great program folks, love the interface, clean tidy looking, but I have an issue with the loading of the GIMP program.

I am unable to install the program properly due to it failing to load the menus towards the end of the install? I have tried several times to do this even dowloading new install?

Also now when I try to delete the Gimp folder, it refuses because of the menu folder being non accessible?

Regards

Tom
