VLC: I have a question about the new version

Submitted by darkness2fall on September 9, 2010 - 2:43pm

I downloaded the new vlc player a few minutes ago and when i went to use it,it didn't load. I tried both normal and run as administrator and while it shows up on the list,it won't run. What i ended up doing was that i created a shortcut directly to the executable in the main app folder and it's working now. My question are: Is this a bug in the vlc player, the download installer, somewhere in the process, etc and is there a way i can fix it to where i can load it from the platform instead of using the shortcut i made?

HI!
(Audacity Portable 1.3.12 rev 2/ PA on USB hard drive.)
At startup Audacity receives error messages:
Failed to convert file "M:\PortableApps Suite™\PortableApps\AudacityPortable\App\Audacity\Portable Settings\audacity.cfg" to Unicode.
can't open user configuration file 'M:\PortableApps Suite™\PortableApps\AudacityPortable\App\Audacity\Portable Settings\audacity.cfg'.
The program does not remember preferences and settings (language, folders, location of LAME and ffmpeg).Reinstalling and change directories did not help.

VLC1.1.2 extremely slow to open on Win7

Submitted by live on August 19, 2010 - 3:23am

Re: I tried to use VLC1.1.2R2 from portableapps.com

OS: Win7 home
6Gb RAM
Intel Core i7

I have configured a multi-user desktop on this machine. Since then, VLC is unacceptably slow, on fresh boot more than 1 min to open, then I get a message "mise à jour du cache pour les polices de caractère" and wait another minute.

Are there some security validations checks from win7 which makes it so slow ???

Portable MPlayer 1.rc2 opens in less than 2 sec....
Portable SMPlayer in less than 2 sec....

Answer from VLC: "Videolan team doesn't provide VLC portable."

VLC 1.1.2 Open Folder command crashes VLC

Submitted by Jeremy Cox on August 4, 2010 - 4:23pm

I upgraded all of my portable apps using the new updater, and discovered that the open folder command (Ctrl-F) now crashes VLC after I select a valid folder full of MP3s. Using the file open command to select all the files in the folder works fine.
This worked correctly with VLC Portable 1.1.0. I have not tried it with a non portable version yet.

The error is from the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library,
Assertion failed!
Program: Full path to vlc.exe
File: ../.././src/text/strings.c
Line: 1120
Expression: path[0] == DIR_SEP_CHAR

VLC: Elapsed time and Skipping problem

Submitted by Renatinh on August 2, 2010 - 9:07am

About elapsed time: After about one hour of video, running RMVB video format, the elapsed time counter stats going crazy. It starts to show much less time that it had to show, like 3 minutes instead of one hour.
And about skipping: When I skip a video the player mixes the image, the video gets very strange, but after a time it comes back to normal.
Could someone fix these problems? I'd be grateful.
Thanks.

VLC 1.1.2 translation errors

Submitted by RockyTDR on August 1, 2010 - 6:23am

There are translation errors in the current release of VLC portable (tested with Dutch, German and French). I reported this at the forum of VLC, and they re-uploaded the installation files with the correct translations.

Could you guys please consider making a new release of the portable version of VLC 1.1.2?

Thanks in advance!
