Rename firefox.exe

Submitted by hanneshoch3 on June 18, 2008 - 8:24am

Hi!
I have a little problem: We have a computer room in our school and we often use it. But I can't use Firefox because a special software recognizes the process "firefox.exe" and kills it. So I want to rename "firefox.exe" to "fire.exe". It works, but i can' open Firefox from the menu. The PC prints that he wasn't able to find "firefox.exe". So I made a shortcut named "firefox.exe". But it still printed the same.
So I used Linux to remove the *.ink at the end. It was: firefox.exe.Ink and I made it to "firefox.exe". But it seems that he couldn't use the shortcut anymore.

Firefox 3 Portable incredibly slow!!!

Submitted by gesandter on June 18, 2008 - 7:29am

Hello,

I just installed Firefox 3 Portable on my USB flash drive (Treckstor USB 2.0, 8 GB) and it is incredibly slow. With Firefox 2 I could almost work normally with the browser as if it were installed, but Firefox 3 is a snail!

It takes up to a minute or more just to launch the application. And from typing an URL to actually seeing the page it lasts about 45 seconds! Are you kidding me? The drive's LED is constantly flashing while browsing, and everytime you click something on a webpage the browser freezes for a short time!

Enable/Disable session restore

Submitted by nicolleen on June 18, 2008 - 4:23am

I'm sorry in case this has been mentioned before.

When I first start the new FF3 I'm asked on first run if I would like to enable or disable session restore. In this window it also reads that I can change this later and I will find out how on the Firefox Portable support page. I couldn't find anything.

Where can I change these settings?

thanks,
nicolllen

Foxmarks won't install in FF3 portable

Submitted by PiEp on June 18, 2008 - 3:18am

I just downloaded and installed the final of FF3 portable. However, I can't install my favorite extension: Foxmarks. It consistently throws me an error when clicking Install: Invalid file hash (possible download corruption).

The fix on the Foxmarks wiki (restarting FF) doesn't help: http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmarks:_Frequently_Asked_Questions#Download

Does anyone know what is wrong?

Please make a full backup copy of your Firefox 2 installation.
Edit:I.E. Do not upgrade your One and Only copy of your Perfectly Configured FF2P
You know, the one you spent hundreds of hours tweaking and perfecting Smile

Many things may get screwed up by the upgrade to FF3 that are beyond our control.
I'm thinking here of Add-ons/extensions that won't work properly till they are updated.

If you find that you have Add-ons that are not ready for FF3 they will be disabled.
