Portable Firefox 3 RC2 Performance Issues

Submitted by mbe on June 11, 2008 - 11:43am

To echo other commenters, I find FF3 RC2 much slower than FF2. I have a pretty fast USB flash drive, based on what I've read. It's the Patriot Xporter XT. FF2 (2.0.0.14) runs lickety-split. FF3 RC2 runs like a dog through molasses. Disk caching is turned off. Pipelining turned on. No saving of passwords. Fewer add-ons than I have on FF2.

I have not turned off remembering history and form fields. How much resources and disk accesses do those consume?

? Is it possible to get "old" versions of Firefox Portable 3 ?

Well - The latest 3 work fine !

"only" a few of my favorite add-ons do not.

One goes to 3.0b1 and one to 3.0b5 (stop with the new version)

Is it possible to get earlier models of 3?

Right: It is a small "problem".
But I like to test if they work, like it is written.

Otherwise I just will live without them ...

Can Firefox Portable "speak" Swedish ?

Submitted by Rudolph on June 10, 2008 - 11:41am

Hej - Can Firefox Portable "speak" Swedish?
(Or Polish or whatever ...)
As far as I can see there is 4 official languages, but it seams that you can install some from the language pack:
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/localization

I tried to download Swedish, but could not get to work.

Maybe I placed it in a wrong folder?

So can it be doned?

Or is it impossible???

Firefox 3 virus scanning ability

Submitted by USBman on June 9, 2008 - 5:39pm

I have an idea that I've been throwing around since learning that Firefox 3 scans downloaded files ( http://www.ghacks.net/2008/06/04/disable-automatic-virus-scanning-in-fir... ), using locally installed virus scanning software... that is, is there a way to change that setting in order to stipulate that Firefox Portable use ClamWin Portable instead? This way, Firefox Portable 3 would still be entirely portable, instead of relying on software (virus scanner) installed on the local machine.

Firefox and Wine

Hello

I sew on Compatibility page that there is a problem with XUL-Based apps (Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, Nvu) with fonts. There is a solution to this problem, and it doesn't affect theses applications on Windows or Themes.

Open PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\Profile\chrome\ . If there isn't file nammed userChrome.css, create a copy of the file UserChrome-Exemple.css and rename it UserChrome.css. Open it with a notepad and add at the end of file theses lines :

* {
font-family: "Tahoma", "Sans";
}
