Firefox Portable

FF Portable no longer works after moving to another location.

Submitted by Ryan_ on January 15, 2008 - 3:37pm

As the title says, if I move FF to another location or rename the FF portable directory it does start up, but I can't do anything - links don't work and neither do menu items.

I was hoping to use the portable version on my hard drive and have the option to stick it on a USB disk for use elsewhere when required.

Is there a config file of some sort with the location I can edit?

Problems with Transcend USB Flash Drive 8Gb

Submitted by arbitrucho on January 15, 2008 - 9:39am

I had the Firefox Portable installed in a Sandisk Micro Cruzer 2Gb and runned without any problem.

Two days ago I bought a new Transcend USB Flash Drive 8Gb, and I copied everything in the Micro Cruzer to the Transcend.

The problem is that Firefox doesn't work well now, it hangs and I have to kill the process and when does not hung is very slow. I tried in several computers and happened the same. I formated the USB Flash Drive and doesn't solve the problem.

Any help?

Thank you

Edit:

all add-ons always say "will be INSTALLED after firefox is restarted"

Submitted by scooby_dooby on January 12, 2008 - 4:27pm

So, I use my USB drive at home and work all the time. I have never had trouble allowing it to update any add-ons itself. But, this time, I notice that none of my extensions are active. Even the themes is not active.

Poking around, I notice that ALL of my extensions and themes say that they will INSTALL (not update) after firefox is restarted. It doesn't seem to matter that I didn't actually update most of them in the last month or so. Many of the extensions have never required an update since their original install.

address file on USB-Stick with %pdrive%

Submitted by mpref on January 10, 2008 - 10:32am

I want to open the file E:\foo.htm in my portable Firefox (also on E:\) and save it as bookmark using %pdrive% insted of E:\. So that when I connect to a different machine (where my Stick might be F:\) I can reopen the file from the bookmarks folder.

All my attempts using something like
file:\\\%pdrive%\foo.htm
in the address bar of the firefox have not succeeded.

It would be great, if you could help.

FF 3.0b2 vaporized ALL settings (no, not the usual prefs.js issue)

Ok, I'm using the 3.0b2 FFportableapp. If there is a different forum to post this in since that is a Test edition please let me know and I'll go there.

I've been using 3.0b2 on my corsair usb thumb drive quite happily since it was released in December. While doing some work today the browser froze on me. Ok, no biggie, I killed the task and fired it back up. After the FFPortable splash screen I saw a Mozilla Firefox software license agreement page I have never seen before. Clicking Accept did absolutely nothing. Clicking Cancel closed the window. No firefox.

I use firefox all the time at home. I use IE6 at work. I just discovered Firefox Portable. I am trying to install/run this on usb 512 flash drive while at work.

I downloaded the latest version of FirefoxPortable and install it to my flash drive. I locate FirefoxPortable.exe and the following messages pops up:

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition | PortableApps.com

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: firefox.exe could not be found)

I'm using WinXP Pro, and Firefox 2.0.0.11. I came across Firefox Portable 3.0 Beta 2 and decided to try it out. I have a USB flash drive, but one of the "how to"'s showed how one could actually install it on your hard drive in a seperate folder and, if you wanted to use both versions, to adjust the INI file to allow multiple sessions. That didn't actually work, but I could play with version 3 anyway on its own.
