Portable Flash?

Submitted by therock003 on April 19, 2013 - 6:47am

I've heard that copying NPSWF32.dll to the plugins folder adds flash for firefox. But to me thats not the case. I tried that and when i access a page with flash content firefox freezes and responds significantly slow, and it forces me to terminate its process from task manager.

FirefoxPortable should set right current working directory

Submitted by hablutzel1 on April 13, 2013 - 4:30pm

Normal Firefox execution sets current working directory to $program_files/Mozilla Firefox when executing firefox.exe, this is required for some applications, for example, an applet using softokn3.dll to access Firefox keystore, because being this the current working directory other dlls can be found by the application.

To the time Firefox Portable current working directory is the same where FirefoxPortable.exe is which makes fail some applications that depend on normal Firefox current working directory.

How to make FF Portable a default - at ALL times

Submitted by occam on April 9, 2013 - 3:59am

I am running under Win XP Pro Sp3

I used to have Firefox installed. Then I migrated to Firefox portable, by transferring the profile across. I have since uninstalled the original and deleted all associated folders.

When I click on my desktop icon, I get my portable FF poping up no problem -- with all my extensions, bookmarks and plugins.
(The icon points to C:\FirefoxPortable\FirefoxPortable.exe)

When I click on a link within Thunderbird (email client), a 'virgin' version of FF pops up. No extensions, no bookmarks, etc.
(C:\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\firefox.exe)

Firefox Portable Test Builds

What's the status on the Firefox portable beta builds?
The .paf builds are several versions out of date.
Will development resume, or will users have to resort to using Firefox's native updating feature?

I've attempted updating through the in-client method, but for some reason the update makes Firefox very crash prone with resource use through the roof.

Update Concerns

Submitted by therock003 on April 5, 2013 - 5:40am

-Can i update firefox portable directly from inside the program or do i need to download the latest version every time, and migrate my data there?

-Also if i change the name of the folder will it create a mess? I mean lets say the Folder is called FirefoxPortable, and i change it to FirefoxPortable20. Will everything still be the same?

Plain Old Favorites add-in

Submitted by cbaxterm on April 3, 2013 - 10:22pm

I use Plain Old Favorites add-in for Firefox on my desktop and think it is Fantastic. This add-in works when installed on the PortableApps version of Firefox, however; it still points to the Favorites shell folder on the hard disk.

Does anyone know a way to get this add-in to point to a folder on the flash drive where the other PortableApps are located?

PDF files in firefox

Submitted by ottosykora on April 2, 2013 - 12:17pm

Any idea how to open pdf files in current firefox so it is open with the adobe pdf reaader and not with the firefox own pdf viewer?

The adobe pdf is installed on the host machine in its current version, the plugin is also listed in the plugin list.

However when a link with pdf is opened, the pdf document attempts to open in the firefox own pdf viewer which unfortunately makes many pdf files just a whipe page.

[Closed] Portable Fx With Nightly doesn't properly handle restarts initiated by Fx itself or by it's add-ons

Submitted by Drugoy on April 1, 2013 - 8:15am

There are some cases when Firefox initiates a restart:
1. Updating Fx prompts to restart it
2. Installing non-jetpack add-ons requires browser restart to run them
3. There are some add-ons like "restart button" that add a button that restart firefox upon clicking it.
4. Crash causes crash reporter to pop-up. Crash reporter always fails to submit a report and suggests to choose 1 of 2 actions: either close Firefox or restart it. User may choose to restart it.

In all the above cases firefox will restart without firefoxportable.exe, which will make it run in non-portable mode.
