Portable Firefox lost settings

Submitted by walker11 on May 10, 2007 - 10:35am

Hello all, I am new here. I am running Portable firefox on a portable 4 gig mini hard drive (Excalibur USB model XEC4). I have downloaded the latest Portable firefox and it is great, but. My settings keep getting lost. Bookmarks, home page and options. I have reinstalled the program and it will work for awhile then for some reason the settings will be lost again. The same happens with portable Thunderbird, all my account settings vanish too. At work I am running Win 2000 pro and At home I run XP. I travel and rely on the mini drive to keep me intouch.

Include "Portable" in window title?

Submitted by jasontan6 on May 9, 2007 - 10:51am

Hey, just started using PortableApps and they're great!

One thing - how about adding the word "Portable" to the title of the window of Firefox Portable? Right now its "Mozilla Firefox". Could you change it to "Mozilla Firefox (Portable)" or something similar?

It gets a bit confusing when using the app locally, and there's a locally installed Firefox.

Plug-in problem

My WMP11 is not working, instead comes up WMP9, and video is bad.
I notice, in my "about plug-ins", that the Mozilla plug-in npnul32.dll is not abled.Could this the problem?, if this is the problem, how I enable the Mozilla plugin?
I check the plug-ins in the folder and they looked OK.
I will appreciate your help.
Thanks.

It seem that when i use firefox portable, i can use it at home. But when i try using on other PC's,None of the Extensions appear in the browser. then i check the Add ons menu they are there. My plug ins and bookmarks appear though. they appear in the file where the addons kept too.Then i check the registry under;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE i see a file called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org. there are 2 REG_SZ Keys. one of the key values is not set. Should i set this value? if so, what # Should i use? or should i put the key on the Flash drive? or should i delete it?

Registering a portable app in Vista

Submitted by pwright2 on May 3, 2007 - 8:45am

Like a lot of folks, despite official disapproval, I run portable apps, including Firefox and Thunderbird, from my hard drive. Mainly because I like the control of where the data goes and ease of backup.

Recently my computer died and the replacement is running Vista. And Vista has been refusing to let me designate Firefox as the default browser. I finally found a note that says a program must be registered before Vista will allow it to be assigned as default.

Does anyone know what the minimal entry into the registry would be to get Vista to recognize my programs?
