Firefox Portable

Slow as hell (yes, I followed the directions)

Submitted by darthfredd on May 15, 2007 - 1:33pm

Despite having "improved performance", my portable fiery foxes are very slow. Here are some symptoms:
- When typing in a text field or text box, letters will not appear as I type them. Instead, they will appear in spurts, every five to twenty seconds.
- Similarly, Firefox will momentarily freeze, refusing to respond to input, then work very fast to "catch up" to me. This happens more frequently then the typing problems.

So is there hope for me yet?

Firefoxfor U3

Submitted by oltibat on May 15, 2007 - 7:03am

Hi

First, excuse me for my poor english, I try to be as clear as possible.

I have a U3 key on which is installed Firefox for U3 1.5.0.9
This application appears on the U3 launchpad.

I would like to upgrade Firefox to the last version.
And when I go to the U3 site, it redirects me to PortableApps.com.
So I have downloaded Firefox PE 2.0.0.3.
I installed it on my U3 key but I have 2 problems :
- The old version of Firefox is still there. So my personnal informations don't appear in the new version (History,Passwords, ...)
- The new version doesn't appear on the U3 lauchpad.

Flash Plug-in not working

Submitted by Klan on May 15, 2007 - 6:46am

I've tried installing the flash plug-in without any luck. I followed the instructions, and when the download starts, I get the following message:

Firefox could not install the file at

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/xpi/current/flashplayer...

because: Download error
-228

Now what do I do?

Anyways, I am very happy for Portable apps, making my life somewhat easier, as I am travelling a lot...

FirefoxPortable.ini not found

Submitted by Kramy on May 12, 2007 - 9:37pm

My FirefoxPortable.exe can't seem to find FirefoxPortable.ini in the same dir; it doesn't disable the splash screen or set a local homepage as I want it to. The settings work fine in PFF 1.5(PortableFirefox.exe, PortableFirefox.ini).

Any ideas why it can't find it? I tried copying the ini to every single subdir, with no luck.

Error starting PortFirefox

Submitted by heinz57g on May 11, 2007 - 7:37am

trying to start PortFF, on two different computers, i always
get the following error code:

- The instruction at "0x00818c00" referenced memory at "0xffffffff". The memory could not be "read".

any idea what this could be, and how to get rid of it? everything else,
incl all portable applications, work fine on these computers (both WIN 2000 Prof).

Greasemonkey Script Problem

Submitted by cw1925 on May 10, 2007 - 10:45pm

I can't get my Greasemonkey scripts to install, even if I download them and manually move them into the "gm_scripts" folder. I've tried uninstalling Greasemonkey several times to no avail. Is there something else I can do? I have several already installed, but I can't install any more for some reason.

Portable Firefox lost settings

Submitted by walker11 on May 10, 2007 - 10:35am

Hello all, I am new here. I am running Portable firefox on a portable 4 gig mini hard drive (Excalibur USB model XEC4). I have downloaded the latest Portable firefox and it is great, but. My settings keep getting lost. Bookmarks, home page and options. I have reinstalled the program and it will work for awhile then for some reason the settings will be lost again. The same happens with portable Thunderbird, all my account settings vanish too. At work I am running Win 2000 pro and At home I run XP. I travel and rely on the mini drive to keep me intouch.
