Thunderbird Portable

Hi,

I have recently switched from Outlook Express to Thunderbird Portable 3.0.4. It's great as I can, among other tings, combine more than one account into a single inbox etc. However I have the following problems:

1.) If I copy anything from another application and try and paste it into a thunderbird email the paste does not work (I have tried Ctrl-V and right hand clicking and selecting paste). I have checked that I can paste the data into other applications such as Notepad etc and it's fine.

I am running the PortableApps version of Thunderbird 3.0.4 under Wine/Linux and am finding that Thunderbird cannot be closed properly. I run the portable apps off of a mounted USB portable disk drive, and when I exit/close Thunderbird, it leaves an orphaned process running, which in turn leaves a LOT of open files on the mounted disk drive. That in turn prevents the disk drive from being capable of being dismounted properly. This only leaves me with the option of forcefully killing the orphaned process for Thunderbird manually, which is dangerous as that can lead to file corruption.

Have had portable apps for about a month now, no major problems. Recently, platform menu opens fine, but apps (thunderbird and firefox) will not start. A crash report window appears instead. I've scanned thumb drive for virus and that checked out OK. Rebooting computer did not solve. Do I have corrupt files? What should my next course of action be?

need to preface this with "yes, I'm a computer idiot."

Windows live mail for some reason is set up as default. when i go to tool,internet options, programs, set programs. I go to "non-microsoft" option and Thunderbird portable does not show up. Any clues???

i run Thunderbird Portable on my Netgear NAS. It takes very long to open the Programm, abour 3-5 minutes. Working in Thunderbird is also very slow, clicking on a mail takes about 30 seconds to do the selected option.

What can i do to make it faster?

Thunderbird 2 is a little faster. Starting takes also very long, but working in Thunderbird is very much faster.

1) Lost my messages on upgrading from Thunderbird 2. Folders all there but no messages.

2) Found my messages after restarting on another machine. Go Figure.

3) One annoyance remains. I have a pop mailbox, so must reset my smtp server as I go from machine to machine. It's OK to reset as I go to send my Email, fair enough, however what is annoying is when I get my Emails and the sender has asked for a return read receipt.

Now I'd like to import my emails from within a web browser accessing my company mails via a VPN.
Do you think it's possible ?

I have always been using Thunderbird 3 on my Vista machine. Bought a new laptop that came with Windows 7 Starter version.

Realised that whenever it on the new machine (Windows 7 starter), TB cannot receive emails (error message : An error occurred with the POP3 mailserver. Mail server pop.winetatler.com responded: ) , but it is able to send emails. Thought that the program got corrupt, so plugged it out and tried it on my Vista machine. It worked perfectly in sending and receiving emails.

I am using the latest version of Thunderbird Portable (3.0.3)on a USB Flash Drive. This evening - I suddenly was unable to reply to a message. The cursor will not show in the body and the original message no longer shows. I also was unable to write a new message - again the cursor will not show in the body. I have not installed any new themes, plugins. I reinstalled Thunderbird (I did not uninstall the old (3.0.3) version first?) - I was able to write one test Email and then the problem started again. I do not know how to get the Portable version to run in safe mode.

For about a week now , when I send a message and then go back to look at that message through the search local folders .. When I reopen my sent message -- It has no body content to it .. The people I email are getting the content -- It is just not copying it all into the sent folder . Any suggestions ?
