Tbird portable from usb only

Submitted by cbusenitz on December 5, 2009 - 6:57am

Has anyone tried using only the thunderbird portable from a memory stick and not putting it on a HD? I would like to synce my portable (from memory stick) with my thuunderbird on my computer HD at a location where I don't have access to the internet. I haven't found a way to make it work, so am thinking about working only from TBPortable on my memory stick. Is this feasible?

Moving between USB and hard drive

Submitted by gerry_g on December 4, 2009 - 11:06pm

I'm using version 2.0.0.23 on Win XP's HD and like to take it occasionally on a Portable App Thumb. I use it most often off my hard drive (XP)

I also sync my laptop with my desktop. These have the same paths, C:\... and that seems to work fine.

When I install it on WinXP (not as a portable app since there are multiple accounts on the machine) it puts it ..../My Documents/Thunderbird

On my Portable app stick, it is in a different directory.

I have problems syncing, Thunderbird doesn't seem to like using relative paths ONLY. I Get incorrect message counts and who knows what else.

Connect though Work Network

Submitted by saunderslevi on December 3, 2009 - 11:14am

Good day,

I am running Thunderbird 3b1 from a USB stick at work. I can't convince it to connect to the network. I'm guessing I need to set up the proxy settings in the connections menu but I don't know how to either find those settings or set one up. I've been searching for some useful information for days but its all been very sketchy.

I can't just ask my IT dept for the settings.

Thanks,
Levi

Relative StartPage-Path

Submitted by Ringwraith on December 2, 2009 - 4:36am

Hi.

First of all: Thanks to all who contribute to this whole PortableApps-Thingie. I - and I think many others - really appreciate it.

Now to my question:
Is it somehow possible to specify a relative path to a Thunderbird Start Page?
I want to use the TiddlyWiki as my StartPage, but I can't specify a relative path to the HTML-file. The whole solution would not be portable anymore if there is a path like file://E:/PortableApps/empty.html specified.

Is there a way to use the PortableApps-Documents folder for this? Or the Thunderbird-Profile or Data-Folder or anything?

TBP bug

Submitted by karamba on November 30, 2009 - 10:23am

Hi,

I've been using TBP 1.5.0.5 for 4 years and about 1 months ago I dicovered the following bug that I cannot solve yet - every time I move cursor to Incoming to one of my gmail accounts - TBP freezes for several minutes and then shows number of emails that exceed several times the real number of emails that are in the folder.

Seems like a bug in the database. I tried to recreate the account and move the email from the old folder to a new one, but it does not help.

Any suggestions how to solve it?

TB 3 beta does not run in different directory then default install

Hi,

I was wondering why my TB3 beta did not run after installation into my email directory (F:\E_M_L). After I installed it into default subdir

f:\E_M_L\ThunderbirdPortableTest\

it worked o.k. Is it done for purpose or is there bug in installer or Thunderbird portable.exe?

Thunderbrowse add-on

Submitted by whitemountain on November 24, 2009 - 12:11pm

I thought this would be a handy item, but for some reason, at TB or TBP start up, I get warnings about the browser's security component is missing. Also, certain things Thunderbrowse tries to open fail, with a message that SSL is disabled or not present. I cannot locate a way to make SSL available in TB. This message also appears when trying to check mail in GMAIL, yet the gmail acct settings have SSL checked.

any thoughts?

thank you in advance.

Just Stopped

Submitted by hrwasp on November 19, 2009 - 7:50pm

I have the latest and greatest version of Thunderbird and yesterday, it stopped working. No changes, no updates, nothing. When I double click on the icon, it gives me the splash screen like normal then nothing. When I check task manager, there it is. The memory goes up, then down. If I click on it to end task, the end task button grays out. I let it 'attempt launch' for 15 minutes to get nothing. I also tried it on a different machine (hoping it was my PC and not my portable). Got the same results.
