USB getting MANY "bad" file structure errors on W7x64 using PortableApps and Thunderbird

Submitted by RussB on August 16, 2010 - 9:40pm

I am getting too many file errors on my USB thumbdrive when accessing T'bird Portable on my Win7 64bit machine.
* I always use "Safely Remove Hardware"
* There are almost always 1 or 2 file errors after dismount.
* File errors are mostly in the Address book, but not always.
* The last one wiped the profile and even restoring the "Data" directory did not get it back, I needed to re-install T'bird Portable.
* USB Drive is Kingston 32 Gig with FAT32 file system.
* Running the same USB on WinXP 32bit works just fine, never any file problems.

[Resolved] Can't send mail with GMail smtp server

Submitted by healer on August 16, 2010 - 3:09am

I have been trying to send mail using smtp.gmail.com with all variations without any success. Can somebody tell me the setup? I can't find it on the Internet.

I have the same account set up on the regular Mozilla Thunderbird and it works fine. The setup is smtp.gmail.com, port 587 with secure connection set to TLS among others like "No", "TLS, if available", "TLS", "SSL".

On the portable Thunderbird, the connection security has the options among NONE, STARTTLS, SSL/TLS, different from the regular one. I tried every possibility but none work.

Moving mail folder between instances of PTB

Submitted by kermik on August 16, 2010 - 2:38am

Senario: I have 2 different instances of PTBs, PTB_1 for work and PTB_2 for private mail. I want to move a mail archive folder (not the "Archive" folder PTB creates) from PTB_1 to PTB_2. I already have a folder in PTB_1 called "ARKIV" (archive in Norwegian) and a subfolder called "Classes", which I want to move to PTB_2, but with the same file structure. Have tried copying the folders and classes + classes. msf files, but they are not recognised in PTB_2 when PTB_2 restarts. How do I make PTB_2 recognise the folders?

TBird Portable as storage for profile on a "regular" installation of TBird

Submitted by fbachofner on August 11, 2010 - 7:19pm

My Mom has been using TBird portable for some time with great success.

I recently built her a Linux based machine for her use at home and this has limited her use of TBird portable at home (as Portable Apps is Win32 -- and we prefer NOT to use WINE).

Are there any problems with installing TBird (same version number as on Portable Apps, obviously) on the Linux machine and then pointing the profile on that Linux-installed version at the profile folder on the Portable Apps device?

Not Respounding status

Submitted by Kally on August 10, 2010 - 10:24am

Since I have downloaded 3.1.2 I occassionally get a "Not Responding" message in my status bar, especially when I have an attachment. The only way to get out of this is to shut down and restart Thunderbird but then I lose the message I was trying to send.

I will try going down one version since I didn't have this before but just wondering if this is normal or is something the matter. Anyone else having this issue???

Thanks.

TypeError: str is undefined

Submitted by Esgrimidor on August 8, 2010 - 7:17pm

I have observed this windows happen while downloading from a msn.com account.

[JavaScript Application]
TypeError : str is undefined

the downloading is very slow.

In general :
gmail and hotmail accounts don't go well. Seem dowload only a few emails .
By example : today 08.09.2010 download four emails from the date 08.02.2010 .
And I see all emails are not download.

I have multiple filters defined for these accounts.

I suppose I need to reconstruct my profile or try to repair step by step.

What can i do ?

When I enter in TB3 I obtain this window message :

Password Required :

Please, introduce the master password for Disp. security software

I know the password and can enter, but I would like to know how to take off that password asking at the beginning.

Best Regards.
