OpenOffice - Portable Fonts
This post is motivated in part by my wish for true portability, but also because I've noticed some font degredation when exporting to pdf, which is very likely common to all OpenOffice versions.

Hi PortableApps forum members,
I have installed OpenOffice Version 2.0.2 on my Win98-Computer without problems and everything is running fine.
Then I have installed Portable OpenOffice Version 2.0.1 (english)+German Language Pack on my 1GB-USB-Stick (unzipped and copied on my Office-PC with OS Windows XP). The installed POo is running from USB-Stick (connected to the XP computer) also without problems.
But now I have a strange problem:
On my HomePC (with OS Win98) the complete Menu bar is missing after starting the application from USB-Stick, instead of the menu I can see only the blue background bar!
I've copied a jre directory on my stick, and configured OpenOffice to use it (in tools/options/java).
All OOo features relying on Java now seem to work properly.
I understand that if the stick later mounts as another drive letter, I might have to change the settings, but is that the only reason that makes java "non-portable", at least from OOo point of view?
Due to download restriction from my provider, and a package scaning engine, I am not able to download the 76 MB zip file.
Are there any smaller packages to download (split into parts)?
Is there any other archive than zip to download (selfextractor, rar)?
Thank you very much for response.
I would like to be able to use Open Office on a School network, the company who manage our network do not really like Open Office, (RM still being part owned by Microsoft). I have installed the portable office apps to a network drive and I would like to be able to create a settings folder on individual users user areas, (not specfic machines), I have spent many hours so far resetting paths etc to point to this new folder, but I am being defeated by several files that insist on going back to the original network drive (read only for the students).
Can anyone help please?
has other lenguages i need portugese?
After a few tries I managed to get Portable OpenOffice to work on a USB memory stick. However, a new issue has come up:
I tried recording a very simple macro, for testing purposes. I selected some text and made it bold in Writer. After saving the macro in a new Library, I tried the command "Run macros...". As soon as I do that, the program immediately exits with no warning or any indication of a problem. I restart the program and it goes into crash recovery, but the macro is nowhere to be found.
OO.org 2.0.2 has been released (see http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.2/index.html). Are there any plans to update Portable OpenOffice.org to that version?
Thanks!
Rick
Due to low workstation hard disk space I am trying to determine a way of having access to Open Office. When i found the portable version I was excited, at first. I have however found that you can only run a single instance of Open Office from a remote machine over a network. Does anyone know of a way around this issue. I am trying to run several instances on seperate machines from the same location on the network?
I would appreciate any information that you can provide.
Thanks,
One thing that would be nice for portable openoffice is file associations. Currently the only way to get them is to either use the full installer or by manually adding them using folder options.
Maybe a switch can be added to PortableOpenOffice*****.exe that registers it as the default program for its respective filetypes or an option in the ini to enable/disabled a check on startup?
or if someone knows a way to associate the filetypes by cmd that would be great.
for now i just drag and drop the file i want to open on the shortcuts i made.
OpenOffice should really add a file associations check box in its options panel.
