Cannot make OO2.0.1 smaller

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 23, 2006 - 10:58pm

Just download the OO2.0.1 and install it. (File version for soffice.exe is 1.9.8985.500.) I try to use UPX and with the options:
--best --compress-icons=0 --nrv2d --crp-ms=999999 -k

I cannot get the DLL compressed. I cannot get the EXE compressed. Why? John, any idea? I use the UPX 125 W version.

Here is the result I get for program\components\*.dll:

C:\upx125w>upx --best --compress-icons=0 --nrv2d --crp-ms=999999 -k c:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program\components\*.dll

File Extensions

Hello,

I have only recently been introduced to U3 and flash drives. I went to this site:

http://software.u3.com/Product_Details.aspx?ProductId=109

I was able to download the OpenOffice file which was openoffice_org_for_u3.u3p

The file available on this site is portable_openoffice_2.0.1_en-us.zip

I am familiar with zip files, I am not familiar with u3p extensions. Can you help me understand it?

Formulas symbols not showing

Submitted by yitzle on February 15, 2006 - 10:34pm

When I make a formula with math or insert a formula into a doc the symbols (=, * etc) don't show normally. I get weird symbols, like houses or something.
Also when I go to the different types of bullets (not numbers) except for the first two types, they all show as that box you get when a character is not on a font table...
Why is this? How can I fix this?

P.S. Is there any difference between a 'master doc' and 'write' doc?

OpenOffice Portable on Flash and Hard Drive?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 15, 2006 - 5:56pm

Greetings,

I am completely new to flash drives. I would like to put the "portable" OpenOffice Suite on my flash drive. Is there any reason why I cannot unzip and place the same "portable office suite" files on both the flash drive and the hard drive and run the same suite from both? The idea would be to create something that would run equally on both.

Oh... In installing the portable office suite, can you tell me... Is this as in the "old DOS days" in a sense? You could copy a full application dir from one place to another then merely click the *.exe to run the program.

Thanks in advance.

Package Management

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 13, 2006 - 9:16am

Hi,
I'm trying to install "LanguageTool" a package for OpenOffice 2. This are the instructions from the web site:
In OpenOffice.org (only OpenOffice.org 2.0 has been tested): Do not unzip the archive, just call Tools -> Package Manager -> Add... to install LanguageTool-0.8.1.zip. Open a new window of OpenOffice.org (Ctrl-N) and you'll see a new menu entry "LanguageTool" that will check the current text.

However, in portable OpenOffice, the installation never occurred and now, when I try to add the package the OpenOffice just close.

Any ideas ?
