[Closed] PortableApps opens Documents/Pictures/Videos etc folders incorrectly

Submitted by JonPotter on March 7, 2012 - 5:37pm

PortableApps is opening folders like Documents, Music, Pictures, etc, in an incorrect way.

Not a major issue, but just thought I'd report it here in case one of the dev team want to address the problem (would take 5 seconds).

PortableApps is specifying the "open" verb when it calls ShellExecute(Ex) in response to a click on the Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. links.

Apps won't install from 10.0.1.0 Platform

Submitted by comtech5 on March 6, 2012 - 7:39pm

From "Get More Apps" menu item, apps will successfully attempt install but don't appear on the Platform when finished. All I get is a pop up window that says "Your new portable apps have been installed and are now available in the PortableApps.com Menu". The apps menu pane is empty. I just bought a new 4GB SanDisk thumb drive, formatted it as FAT32. My OS is Win7/64. I tried turning off MSSE but that didn't help. Restarted PC, reformatted thumb drive, still ng.

Have update skip certain applications

I love the updating functionality of the suite, it's the main reason I use it. However there are some applications I don't wish updated, newer isn't always better. VLC2 requires .net, portable browser versions kept for web testing, and others.

It'd be great if there were an update exclusions list or something that resided in the suite's folder, or depending on how the update system works, perhaps a flag in the individual app's ini (AppnamePortable.ini) files.

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file

Submitted by mrgou on February 22, 2012 - 7:51am

I've been using various PortableApps from my C drive without any issue for a long time now. Installing them into a dedicated folder was never a problem.

I've been trying to install the PortableApps Platform but, as soon as I start the installer, I get an error message:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file"

Since I haven't even had the chance to specify anything, I don't know what it's complaining about.

Any idea?

Thanks!

PA.Com search app bug

Submitted by ashberry777 on February 21, 2012 - 6:09am

Hello all,

PA.com has this great feature where I can find apps by simply starting to type a part of the name.

But I keep bumping into a strange bug.

Always, the first character I type changes into a graphical character, in stead of the letter I typed. PA will then not find anything I am looking for.

If I press a character, a backspace, and then the letters to search, it will find what I am looking for.

Anyone here who experiences the same issue, or perhaps even have a solution for this ?

Portable Apps Bundle

Submitted by Skeeve1313 on February 20, 2012 - 9:20am

At one time, I was able to find, on the PortableApps website, a PortableApps Bundle that contained many of the most useful apps that I could download as a package and install to my thumbdrive. Do you still offer this bundle, or do I now have to download each app individually?

Documents, Pictures, and Music Folder locations

Submitted by kilgoretrout on February 19, 2012 - 12:51pm

I have an XP Pro machine, (and others) with separate partitions, and relocated personal folders. For example, D:\My Documents. Obviously, my My Pictures, and My Music are subfolders of My Documents on the XP machine. When installing the portableapps platform on my data drive [D:], which has the path d:\portableapps\ , I told it the location of my portableapps folder is D: So far, so good. However, it has not recognized the My Documents folder, and created just D:\Documents, which is the target of the "Documents" icon on the portableapps menu.

portable apps flash drive

I am struggling to understand how I get help with portable apps. I am not familiar with chat rooms and get "can't use that command" when I enter anything.

I have bought your new flash drive and have been using it successfully for a few weeks however the portable apps platform appears to have become corrupted and I get error messages about missing files when I attempt to start up. If I bypass the platform and go to the thunderbird portable application it will start however programs like back up and restore seem to struggle to complete.
