How can I run multiple instances of the same program simultaneously on more than machine (using cloud installation)

Submitted by mkaram on August 6, 2016 - 9:22pm

Hi there! I have installed portable apps on my cloud drive (OneDrive) and want to be able to run a subset of the programs at startup on multiple machines - for example, my home system, my workstation at the office, and my laptop.

If I have certain programs that I want to run permanently (for example, lightscreen, autohotkey, dm2, ditto, etc.), then they conflict with each other's startup information, and I start getting the "Another instance of x is already running. Please close other instances of x before launching x." message.

Do I need to install again to use Portable Apps from USB

I have installed Portable Apps to a folder on my C drive for use on my main PC and selected all the apps I think I will need. I would also like to have it available on my Windows 10.1 Tablet and to have a portable version on a USB stick to use on other PC's. Can I simply copy the installation folder and files across to the stick and then to my tablet or do I have to perform another install to USB and another to my Tablet, selecting all the apps again for each of them?

Cannot update PortableApps

Yesterday I started receiving the message "Unable to connect to PortableApps.com to retrieve portable apps. Please try again later. [SendRequest Error]" every time I open PortableApps, or try checking for updates. I tried setting the internet connection to Direct, but that did not help. I checked IE's internet settings and all seems normal, and IE connects fine (that is what I'm using now). I downloaded a new copy of PortableApps, but that did not help either. Any suggestions?

portableapps keeps corrupting mousepad driver

~

For the past year or so I've been getting the following error...

http://imgur.com/a/URmGe

This only happens when portableapps is plugged in.

Doesn't matter which browser I use.

Happens about 60% of the time I use it.

Mousepad driver only returns after I reboot the machine.

I've put up with it for now, but I'm getting fed up with it and am now saying something about it. Any idea what's going on?

Scrollbar seems to small for how much has to scroll, maybe can be revised/fixed?

Is not a bug, more a nuisance but indeed is a bit confusing because it has no logical/intuitive linking between scrollbar length and scrolling distance.
What do I mean by that?
Normally, a scrollbar should have its length proportional to how much it has to scroll (unless is too much to scroll, then is just locked to a small defined size).

General scrollbars behavior:

App did not close properly

I'm getting this error message that says my VeraCrypt did not close properly. Every time. It *did* close properly. And even if it didn't, it really isn't a problem at all. And even if it were a problem, you don't have to bother the user with it. Just do that cleanup thing and launch the app right away.

This is the latest VeraCrypt and PA.com 14.1.

Uninstalling Firefox leaves behind metadata

Submitted by gwt10 on July 6, 2016 - 10:02pm

I had a corrupt FF profile and decided to start from scratch since there wasn't a lot in there. I right mouse-clicked from the menu and selected uninstall the app as you would normally do.

I had previously renamed it "Firefox 1" in the menu and when I went to do a fresh install, it kept the name "Firefox 1" in the menu, which leads me to believe there is still traces of Firefox metadata left behind within the protableapps platform itself.
