Backups: internal vs with 7zip

Submitted by XCLN on December 4, 2015 - 8:39am

Hi

I am using Portable apps on a partition of my hard drive (which I sometimes load to a USB drive), to make using my apps on different laptops simpler.
Currently I simply zip the whole installation folder to a zip file for tranfers/ archiving.
I am missing anything vs archiving using the internal backup of Paf? Of course I understand that on a foreign PC without zip programs, the self installed Paf backup is great.

Just checking. Thanks

Portable App Platform apears in open windows task bar in Windows 7 and Windows 10

Submitted by Weezle1234 on December 3, 2015 - 4:15pm

When I use the Portable App Platform in Windows 7 & Windows 10, the platform responds differently in the OS versions.
So when I use the Platform on a system like Windows Vista. the platform responds as normal with in the task bar's notifications.
But when I use the Platform on a Windows 7 or 10 system. The Platform Shows on my task bar as a window and bury the notification in the hidden icons. And I looked into the Platform settings and fond nothing that changed the settings.

Adding Custom Apps to Portable Apps Platform

Submitted by pauluvz on December 2, 2015 - 12:56pm

Dear PortableApps

Is it possible to add my own programs into the Portable Apps Platform Application list on my own computer only? This would be for my own computer only, as the Portable Apps Platform provides me with an excellent place to find some of my commonly used custom developed tools and utilities. Or would doing this break the platform app as it might try to find an update for my app on Portableapps.com and obviously would not be able to find it there?

What is MakeHeader.exe?

Thanks

Some apps not starting at Windows 7

Submitted by mark_valley on December 1, 2015 - 11:45am

This problem started some weeks ago and is happening in two machines now.

When I try to start some portable programs I see the launch screen. After some seconds the lauch screen closes but the program interface does not appear.

If I look at "task manager" I can see the program process but no user interface. Also tried various compatibility modes and "run as administrator" without success.

Finally I tried to open these programs inside a sandbox (Sandboxie) and they worked perfectly.

Portable Apps installed on seperate computers "Get More Apps" issues

Submitted by rhandel on November 30, 2015 - 11:46am

Q: I have Portable Apps in the root directory of several machines for testing and install ALL of the applications onto each. On one particular Upgraded (to recent PA Platform), Win 7 64Bit machine, I do not get the "You Rock" screen but a complete menu of all of the PA applications.

Is there a problem with the Platform upgrade process? Should I attempt to reinstall the PA Platform? Are there config files that can be deleted/recreated to solve this?

Any help would be appreciated.

App tagging within PA menu for faster searching

Submitted by shnbwmn on November 26, 2015 - 7:20am

I don't know about anyone else, but as my app collection grows, I'm finding it harder to justify having a single category (say, Utilities) without some means of sorting or filtering it. I don't think the problem can be solved properly by allowing the user to add categories beyond the handful that is now there. From what I have gathered from perusing the forums, it seems nesting won't be on the PA roadmap for the foreseeable future.

Apache Openoffice is set back to english if launched from portableapps

Submitted by Family Guy on November 21, 2015 - 8:37am

If I launch Openoffice Portable from the folder on the usb drive and set a language (in my case Italian) then Openoffice Portable is launched always in that language. If I then launch it from portableapps (set to italian) the language of Apache Openoffice is reset to english (even if launched from folder).

Platform icon is hidden from tray on restart

Submitted by DrVolodya on November 14, 2015 - 8:47am

I'm using Portable Applications extensively and use the Platform launcher to start programs, so in W7x64 I could make the icon to always show in the tray, but now with W10x64 I've done this setting many times with no success - the icon gets hidden after restart. Is this something that is impossible to do with W10 or is there a trick to it?

Thanks,
Volodya
