Need Help Installing on Macbook Pro

Submitted by carsonikey on November 2, 2015 - 12:58pm

First off, I'm aware that PortableApps is a PC program but I know there are ways around this.

I tried figuring out how to install PortableApps on my Mac myself but was unsuccessful. I've never tried to install a PC program on my Mac before so I'm not really sure what I'm doing. I have access to the programs CrossOver and PlayOnMac.

Can anyone offer advice or detailed instructions on how I can install and use PortableApps on my Mac? It would be much appreciated!

(written out or video tutorial links. whatever works)

[Fixed] Xonotic 0.8.1 keeps trying to update

Submitted by ASJ on October 31, 2015 - 12:32pm

Every time I "Check for Updates" the updater claims there is an update to Xonotic 0.8.1. I've updated several times to this version and I'm still getting the same update message. I've even downloaded this newest version from Source Forge and installed. Still get the notice that Xonotic 0.8.1 is available as an update.

PortableApps - Menu - Search

Submitted by Weissenow on October 28, 2015 - 6:01am

Hello everyone,

I'm using PortableApps for some years now and in addition to the already huge
amount of apps I also added lots of other, also portable progs.
To find the needed app, I often use the SEARCH - functionalty. This reduces the
shown Apps in the Menu, depending if the search is part of the apps name or if
'it looks like, part of an describing index / keyword list'.
Now I like to know, if there's any possibility to add / change /edit these 'keyword
lists' & if possible, how to do so.

portableapps when i update check, wishes to update a program that's not installed

Submitted by choicevoice on October 26, 2015 - 2:33pm

as stated, when i update check, it wishes to update a program that's not installed. the culprit is jportable 8 update 66. i used to have this installed, but had uninstalled it. apparently, something is left that is causing this. i snooped around the folders to try and spot something to erase manually, but didn't find anything. does anyone know (to focus my search) which folder etc i should look in to spot the left overs? i checked the default data, the bin etc, but no obvious name jumps out at me.

Please allow a the name of a shortcut to appear in the menu as well as the name of executable files.

I have tried to add an application to the PortableApps menu, however, the top level folder contained only a folder called Browser and a shortcut to an executable in the Browser folder. However, the shortcut name did not appear in the menu.

I copied calculator.exe into the same folder and it did appear in the menu, as expected.

Please allow a the name of a shortcut to appear in the menu as well as the name executable files.

MENU - Requests

Submitted by BeaBonobo on October 20, 2015 - 9:56am

Ciao. Love the minimalism of the menu system in PA. Its a very good piece of software design.

I have three requests, based on long term use.

1 - Make the menu box have STRETCHABLE length so that you can see more items without needing to scroll.

2 - I would really like a SECOND TIER of categories. So there would be Categories and Sub-Categories under them if you needed that. As the number of portable apps I am using increases all the time I am finding the single-tier category system is not quite enough to organise efficiently.

Access Logs for PortalApps Applications

Submitted by lightonphiri on October 17, 2015 - 1:15pm

I am new to PortableApps. I would like to find out if there is any easier way of logging application usage for PortableApps.

## Senario
Let us say I have a USB drive with 10 portable applications; how would I go about logging timestamps when specific PortableApps were launched? I spent the last couple of hours poking around utility applications but non of them seem to be a perfect fit for what I want.

I would ideally want the access logs to be stored on USB drive.
