Help button dead

Submitted by bretwalda on January 21, 2011 - 12:17pm

It used to work because I always referenced it to make sure I was using the right sync procedure. When I click the help button in the setting tab now its dead - nothing comes up.

If someone could post the definitions of the different sync options up here I would appreciate.

FWIW I'm using Win XP64

Error with no information...

Submitted by Xenithar on January 17, 2011 - 7:52am

Alright, I am about to upgrade one of my older systems from a 120GB SATA disk to a 250GB SATA disk. In preparation, I am running a final differential backup on the drive. It correctly detects which files I need and then spends about six and a half hours compressing most of them, but ALWAYS fails with a CRC error. The thing is, it isn't telling me if the error is on the external HDD or my internal one. I have run long and short drive tests on both and both pass. I've run scandisk. I am beginning to think that this may be an issue within Toucan.

little bug in Toucan 3.0.4: script deletion inconsistent

Submitted by Cathryne on January 13, 2011 - 11:00am

Hi!
When one deletes a script from the list with the red - button, the first letter in the script's text field gets removed as well. It's not major, but:
- either the whole text box should be blanked when the script is deleted
- or the text should persist until the user does anything else. Since there is no undo function, I would prefer this option, so an accidental deletion of the script doesn't cause it's content to be lost right away. But then, the bug with the first letter being deleted should be fixed.
Thanks!

Problems with Backup Type

Submitted by wrbird on January 7, 2011 - 5:49pm

Can anyone help me understand the various backup types? I created a Complete backup. Then a couple of files changed. Ran the same job, but selected Update type. It just backed up all the same files. I noticed that the archive bits were not reset after running the Complete backup. How does Toucan know what's been changed in order to do a Update or Differential backup?

Thanks for your help.

problem with backup/password

Submitted by BMMH on January 7, 2011 - 11:37am

Hello everybode,

when i use the backup tool, type "complete", format "zip", compression "fastest", other "Password = yes", then it will work, but without Password in ZIP File!

Toucan ask for the password, and then the programm starts. After finish, i check out the zip file with the windows file folder zip tool, and it will show all files in the ZIP file, and i can extrakt all - without asking for the password.

WinZIP and WinRAR will do the same - not ask for the password.

So, toucan have not do any PW in the File (ZIP File). Why not?

What goes wrong?

Thank you.

4 Important and Easy Suggestions for Toucan 3.1

Submitted by jahmanjah on January 6, 2011 - 9:49pm

Hello!

Big Toucan v. 3.0.4 fan here!

Suggestions for v. 3.1:

When Sync Mirror Preview (to find differences in
data sets):

1. Allow user to configure to not list files
*inside* .zip files,

2. Allow user to configure font color for file
difference line lines to something wild, easy
to see!

3. Add Previous/Next buttons to go to the
previous/next difference in the data set,

4. Allow network names in source and destination
folder selection dialog boxes so we don't need
to map network drives to letters (nobody does
this anymore!)

Log file omition

Submitted by maaylix on January 5, 2011 - 7:43pm

Hi there,

I've noticed that the log file (in a sync job... I don't know about other jobs) will only specify files that have been copied but will not tell which files have been deleted.

This happened in version 3.0.4 and 3.0.2

Is this a bug? a missing feature? is it something that can't be implemented? Or can this by any chance be happening only to me?

Thanks for your time!

Sync hides empty destination folders

Darkbee's picture
Submitted by Darkbee on December 31, 2010 - 6:33pm

I'm using 3.0.4 on XP and it seems as though Toucan hides emtpy folders on the destination side when doing a preview, which in turn makes it look like the destination isn't an exact mirror of the source when in fact it is. I confirmed that the empty folders actually exist in both source and destination, they just don't seem to show in the destination preview.

Am I missing something obvious?
