.bat stall

Submitted by shadrouk on November 16, 2010 - 3:20am

Alright, so I'm relatively new to command line but a .bat is pretty self-explanatory so far as I can tell. I'm trying to use the following in a .bat file in order to encrypt files in a particular folder before I disconnect my flash drive.

G:\PortableApps\Toucan\App\Toucan\toucan.exe -p "password" -j "off"

However, when I run the .bat, I get the initial output I usually see when running the job inside the GUI, but just the system description bit. It never actually runs the job.

Any help?

Found a bug - not sure what to call it

Submitted by TwinDude on November 12, 2010 - 12:29pm

Here is a screenshot of the bug. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/329466/ToucanBug.bmp
I was running a copy operation with no parameters. I realized that it was re-copying everything that was already there, so I canceled it at 12:21:41. That's when it said finished, then gave another error and then said finished again.

Feature Request - Synchronise Option (in addition to Equalise)

Submitted by Rassilon on November 3, 2010 - 8:35pm

Scenario:
On my work computer I run Portable Apps off the HDD but have a mirrored copy on my flash drive. I do this because sometimes I need to work at other computers and occationally at home, so I use the flash drive for this. In general the "Equalise" option works well, unless I do the following:

e.g. On the flash drive (Say at home) I will re-arrange my files, move the old ones to an "Archive" folder and delete some I no longer want.

When I "Equalise" - As expected:
1. The ones that I have deleted are copied back from Work HDD

Doesn't work checking files by size in synching mode

Submitted by udjin123 on November 3, 2010 - 5:13am

Hi,

In toucan 3.0.3 (latest version): doesn't work checking files by size in synching mode, so if there is file - 1.txt in folder A and same renamed file - 1a.txt in folder B synchronization simple copy it (or them) to another directory, even if there are
flag Check File by Size - checked.

It doesn't depend on any other combination of flags on file checking (in synchronization mode).

Any ideas???

Scheduler?

Submitted by vjmorph on November 2, 2010 - 1:26am

Hi folks,

I'm loving the power of Toucan and the fact that its a portable app makes it all the better.

I'm using it to relpace an old installed backup/sync app I had that I could schedule to back up my entire work drive to an external drive over night (I do alot of video editing).

Does Toucan have any sort of scheduling where I can set it up to execute a Sync job I have already created to run automatically everynight @ say 2am??

I see there is some scripting functionality, but I'm a video/graphics guy & I've never been able to get my head around that sort of stuff.

How to remember password

Submitted by RhinoId on October 31, 2010 - 4:46pm

hi,

I'm trying out toucan, and i've managed to backup files, and to encrypt it. But if i script these steps, it always asks for the password. When i use the encryption password for 7zip it also asks for the password. How can i automate this so that it doesn't ask but remembers this?

Thanks

A few issues I found in 3.0.1.0 and suggestions

Submitted by DBDigital on October 15, 2010 - 11:17am

Granted I don't have the latest version (just found out as I was going to post this, I will download an try the new version later today but I thought I would post this all the same).

Shouldn't the .7z extension be used when 7-zip format is used?

Do you have to save the job name before you actually start running it? I seem to have items being backed up even though I had other folders selected and another destination specified.

Shouldn't when you click "add" and yes to "saving current job" shouldn't it save? In my case it does not.

Scripting?

Submitted by Xenithar on October 13, 2010 - 2:50pm

Currently I only use Toucan for backing up data using the differential method. I then have a VBScript set to run once a week that creates a folder with the day (Saturday in my case) setup in "yyyy-mm-dd" format, and moves the basefile and the update files into it. Then the next time it backs up, I get a new basefile and the cycle starts again.

Sync with Folder Exclusions

Submitted by seanhewi on October 13, 2010 - 1:23pm

Hi,
Toucan is a great tool - very useful! Smile

I have a small issue with Syncing however. I've setup a couple folder exclusions for a particular Sync (Mirror) job and get the following error afterwards:

-----
19:09:27 Toucan 3.0.3
Operating System: Windows XP (build 2600, Service Pack 3)

19:09:27 Directory 'C:\Backup\Leuchtfeuer\Images' couldn't be deleted (error 32: the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)
