Backup a few individually selected files

Submitted by jma119 on September 21, 2009 - 12:39pm

I select the Backup tab, then i select individually a few files in Toucan's left window and click on the + button to add them to the file list, i get a weird phenomenon in the file list where a file is considered as a folder containing the other files. If i try to backup then, it ends up with errors. Is this a known error or am I doing anything wrong ?
Thank you

Backup whole directory minus one file

Submitted by trust on September 21, 2009 - 1:21am

How can I do this?

Example: let's say I want to back up my Data folder of my FireforPortable installation every 24 hours... minus urlclassifier3.sqlite, which is only a big swap file or something.

Is there an option in Toucan already to do this? If I already added the whole Data directory to the backup set, then I can remove only urlclassifier3.sqlite? So farI have found the only way I could accomplish this is by adding each file one by one in the Data folder to the backup set... but that's no fun.

Script doesn't recognize commands

Submitted by Thomas M. on September 14, 2009 - 12:55pm

Hello there!

I have a problem with Toucan scripts:

While i have selected "english" in the language settings everything works fine. But if i change this to "german" scripts abort with an error message.

For example:

> Rename "C:\test.txt" "C:\test1.txt"

This works great 'in english' but 'in german' an error occures:

> Renamekonnte in Zeile 1 nicht erkannt werden!

Which says that "Rename in row 1 could not be recognized". (There is also a space missing between Rename and konnte, by the way). The strange thing is, that

BUG? Command not found error in console

Submitted by tohms on September 11, 2009 - 1:38pm

Hi there,

first of all thank you very much for your time to hack such a great tool!
Only thing matters to me as a console freak is program's command line function.
I tried to sync 2 folders by a batch file so I started "Toucan Sync C:\Path\to\source C:\Path\to\dest Mirror". But all I get is an error about command wasn't found. Also tried with other arguments as Backup and tried upper- as lowercase.
Only way working is with a job name like "Toucan jobname".
Any idea why? Does Windows Vista matter?!

Cheers,
Thomas

Hidden at start issue

Submitted by GreenEE on September 8, 2009 - 2:32pm

Toucan was working great and then all of a sudden I've developed a problem. From PortApps I click Toucan, get the splash screen and then I get an "active" Toucan icon in the task bar, but I can't see Toucan. The only way I can get Toucan visible is to right click and hit maximize. Hitting restore from the task bar's right click menu or on the Toucan menu bar makes is disappear, but show active in in the tool bar. I assume that this is some weird case of saving the last used location and that is off screen??? It still works, but is a pain.

Toucan Scripts

Submitted by mchooha on September 8, 2009 - 4:11am

Hi all,

I am new round here (please be nice) and have just installed Toucan.

After reading the help file, I have still been unable to work out what exacally i need to do to script a Toucan backup.

Can anybody please direct me to the correct forum if already posted, or provide assistance as to what the commands/codes are.

Are you able to put something together so that it can be scheduled in Windows scheduler?

Much appreciated

Suggestions for future Toucan builds

Submitted by gtr on September 2, 2009 - 11:12pm

Hi, this is my suggestion for future builds

1) a new sync mode "clean and update" (only 1 pass instead actual 2 pass first clean and then update), and/or clean addable at other sync modes

2) add more comparison mode:
a) only time/date, and add extended optional mode for overwrite target files even when source file is oldest

b) byte size only
every time the byte size is different in all case source file will be copy and overwrite the target file (with the update and mirror update sync mode).

c) byte size time/date

High Screen Resolution problems in Windows 7

Submitted by TwinDude on September 2, 2009 - 10:02pm

I think I remember reading somewhere that it is a known problem that Toucan has problem on machines with high screen resolutions. Most of the time when I open Toucan it does not appear within the screen limits. To fix this problem I right click on the icon and select maximize.

My problem now is that I just installed Windows 7 and it does not have that option when right clicking an application in the task bar. What can I do? I can't see toucan anywhere on my screen and I can't maximize it or move it any way that I know of.

Decryption password

Submitted by robcranfill on September 2, 2009 - 4:22pm

This was mentioned once previously (years ago!) but I'll bring it up again. When one encrypts a file, Toucan asks for your password twice, as it should, so you won't have accidentally mis-typed your password and thus encrypted it with some unknown (to you) password. Fine. However, when *de*crypting a file, it also asks you for your password twice! What's the point of that? It's really irritating, and serves little or no purpose.
