Toucan

I've noticed in the log a number of 'toucan.tmp' files being updated. In one instance, I had a whole list of 'Toucan.tmp' files that had been copied. In another instance,I could not find any .tmp files in the source or destination. I recently began having this problem, but can't find out what is causing it.

Toucan hangs up if I abort a job. I have encountered this problem at least in two different ways:

1- Started sync job; aborted; tried to start a script --> toucan hangs up while "setting progress bar".

2- Started script; aborted --> Toucan hanged up.

Hi,

I'm trying to create a sync between folders on my portable HD and my USB flash drive.
I want to overcome the problem of drive letters changing when I plug them on different computers.
Toucan is installed on the HD, so I'm using the @drive@ variable for this drive.
But I'm looking for a way to make the program uniquely identify the flash drive, although its letter might change.

I though of using the drive label, instead of the drive letter, but I don't know how.

Help and any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I'm a bit confused about the differences between Mirror & Copy Sync functions. in the help file Mirror is defined as:

"Mirror creates an exact copy of the source directory in the destination directory, it may delete files in the destination directory."

and Update as:

"This copies all of the files in the source directory that are newer than those in the destination directory, it uses the modified time of the files."

I would like to schedule Toucan to run via Windows Task Scheduler (Scheduled Tasks). It is easy enough to do this but how would I schedule it to run a certain saved job? Anyone know how this might be accomplished? Thanks,

I have two issues with using the GUI in the backup tab.

1- I'm sure it is in the help file but the Job Name feature is not at all intuitive. I thought it was to save setting for a particular job but every time I try to use it, it clears my settings and I have to start over. It's pretty frustrating.

I'm attempting to sync a folder up that goes through a VPN across the country. Text files, pdfs, ppts, and basically every filetype I had at hand would go through it but when I try to send across an .exe file it sticks as a toucan.tmp file. I've even tried to rename it to what it should have been. Is their a known problem with exe's and vpns? I looked through a good chunk of the forum and didn't see it but I may have just over looked it. Thanks

The main Toucan page speaks of incremental backup. I can't seem to figure out how to select that funtion. Is the 'Update' backup equivalent to incremental?

It may sound somewhat strange, but I need to save some of the files
in a folder hierarchy /not the whole folder structure or
part of it specifiable by file masks/.
For example I would like to setup a job for saving the following 2 files:

c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\firefox.js

&

c:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\defaults\pref\mailnews.js

I can select both files, but in this case paths will be not saved.
I basically expect to be saved either the whole paths or at least
the first common folder, in our case "Program Files/..."
