PuTTY Tray and portaPuTTY

Submitted by lwc on December 16, 2009 - 6:15am
  1. The link you give for the former is outdated.
  2. The former optionally doesn't write to the registry, so you can use that (if you can detect it).
  3. Why don't you suggest to also drag and drop the latter (which not optionally doesn't write to the registry) into Putty Portable?

Thanks!

via macafee virus scan enterprise

PuTTYPortable.e D:\portProg\PuTTYPortable\App\putty\PUTTY.EXE generic!bg.gru (Trojan)

tried to download the newest version today and got this:

\Downloads\PuTTY_Portable_0.60_Rev_3.paf.exe.part\PUTTY_PORTABLE_0.60_REV_3.PAF.EXE.PART generic!bg.gru (Trojan)

went to generic putty and no probs there. notice AVG does not detect this as a threat, have not tested other AVs

Pidgin Portable launches IE instead of system's default

Submitted by hypest on November 18, 2009 - 4:14am

I know there was a last-year thread about this, but I can't get around it:

I have set my XP default browser to Firefox portable using the DefaultBrowser utility. For example, at the Windows Run dialog, entering "http://www.google.com" opens a new tab in FF Portable. FF Portable is running (and registered through DefaultBrowser) from a local drive (not usb thumb etc...).

Still, clicking on links in Pidgin Portable's chat windows, IE opens up....

How can I force Pidgin Portable to run system's default browser, or at least set it to run a specific one?

Any help appreciated Smile

FileZilla: Removing old version from Portable Apps Menu

Submitted by AvatharV on November 14, 2009 - 7:41pm

I had an old version of Filezilla 3.0.11.1 installed on my thumb drive and when I installed version 3.2.6.1, it made a separate entry. Every other program just updated the existing install, but this upgrade left me with 2 Filezilla menu entry. The old may not even be installed anymore, but how do I remove the duplicate entry.

I don't want to muck around where I don't know what I am doing, so I look to the experts.

Thanks.

PuTTY: Avoiding the registry alltogether

Submitted by crux on November 14, 2009 - 6:38am

This forum has quite a few Windows registry issues. It may be possible to avoid storing settings in the registry (thus eliminating the need for the .reg file workaround) without modifying the PuTTY source code. The trick is to donate the modified source code to the developers of PuTTY and have them make it a part of their next release.

Pidgin Language

Submitted by freekarol on November 7, 2009 - 2:32pm

I wanted to have Pidgin in my language. So I downloaded all languages packs and then deleted languages I didn't need. But when I run Pidgin it is still in English. The advise how to set a certain language didn't help me:

"head to PidginPortable\Data\settings directory and open up PidginPortableSettings.ini. In there, set PidginLANG equal to the language you wish to use..."

Because I have nothing in the Data folder...

Can you help me, please?
