Miranda: Do I really need ICQ et al to get on MSN?

I gave this a try today as an alternative to Pidgin, to see what all the fuss was about. It kind of threw me a curve ball asking for my AIM info. OK, I put it in, but then it asked me for ICQ. Don't have it, so I hit Cancel. Now all the status icons on the bottom are black and I can't even put my MSN info in.

I figured out that if I right-click on the systray icon and go to Options I can enter the info manually, but I still can't connect to anything.

Do I really need to configure all networks for it to connect just to one?

Pidgin: Pounces

Can the program be made simply to change my status upon the changing of a contacts' status?

Also, why isn't is that setting pounces is done from a simple drop down list instead of having to know a contacts name.

Pidgin crashes soon after start - always

EDIT: Reboot and fast "killing" of Facebook IM does the trick sometimes... Can you overload Pidgin Portable? Would you recommend the full pidgin with a lot of Plugins? Can you combine pidgin portable and the regular one? e.g. autocopy your logfiles to the portable version but using the regular while being at home?!
And also: How to make p - portable more stable?

2nd EDIT: IT's not only facebook that kills it. I disabled the facebook account but crashes still occur.

3rd EDIT: IT IS THE MSN ACCOUNT!

4th: Deleting and re-adding all the accounts did the trick.

Pidgin: Crashing a lot?

Submitted by hm2k on April 21, 2009 - 2:39pm

Anyone else finding that pidgin portable crashes more and more with each update?

I don't think I can go through a 24 hour period without pidgin crashing...

Is anyone interested in resolving this?

What are the steps to take to get this resolved?

If nobody is interested or there are no steps, it's likely that I'm going to exchange pidgin for something else, such as miranda, and that would be a shame.

I hear good things about Empathy, shame it's linux only.

Can't install fonts on USB stick for use with Pidgin

I went to Pidgin's settings directory and created a .fonts directory to put the fonts in, but the font didn't appear in Tools->Preferences->Conversations->Conversation Font.

I've also tried moving GTK to \PortableApps\CommonFiles\GTK and I edited GTK\etc\fonts\fonts.conf to add this line:

<dir>/PortableApps/CommonFiles/GTK/share/fonts</dir>
