Pidgin portable launcher configuration

Submitted by tinned on January 16, 2009 - 4:35am

Hi!

I have separated as far as possible the applications from the data. Therefor i have a different directory structure as maybe some of you have. Anyway, in most of the portable launchers there is a setting for the data directory. I use this setting to seperate data and application.

The portable launcher for Pidgin is not able to change the diectory for the users data. It is not possible to configure the path vie the .ini file!! Launcher does not support it! Sad

Pidgin: Launcher.. why?

Submitted by HarshReality on January 15, 2009 - 7:41am

Just a question and maybe a request...

Pidgin's site has direction for portable (using the pidgin exe renamed) so it automagically stores its data in the program folder. Why not simply make the launcher use that rather than creating the additional directory structure?

And, if possible could somebody create a launcher for me that will run Pidgin\pidgin-portable.exe without the additional path garbage please and mail it to hreality(at)gmail(dot)com.

Thanks

Pidgin: MSN protocol fails

Submitted by aduart on January 14, 2009 - 11:26am

Hello.

I am posting here after a few months with the same issue.
Last version I get connected to MSN is 2.4.3

If version is higher (2.5.4 is the last I tested), MSN connection
fails, with message:

Connection error from Notification server:
Reading error

All others protocols I use go fine: GTalk, ICQ, AOL, Yahoo, Jabber.

Only MSN fails (repeat: 2.4.3 go fine now too).

Any suggestion to get new version working in MSN ?

Thanks and regards

Eduardo.

Pidgin: 2.5.4 portable

Submitted by ddedo on January 13, 2009 - 7:45am

Ok, looks like a new version of pidgin came out, and solved the problem of MSN address not connecting.

So, i downloaded the 2.5.4 version, opened with 7zip, and:

- overwrote all the dll in the main folder to \PidginPortable\App\Pidgin
- overwrote the folders in $_OUTDIR to corresponding folders in \PidginPortable\App\Pidgin
- renamed the pidgin.exe to pidgin-portable.exe and overwrote the one in \PidginPortable\App\Pidgin

i'm testing it, and looks like everythign is working fine, also msn protocol.
BTW it fixed also the issue of the hanging and crashing upon closing.

My Google Talk and Facebook accounts still functioning without issue.

Any one else have this issue or a solution?

Error reads

Unable to retrieve MSN Address Book

Two Pidgin Processes Running At Once.. Why?

Amarus's picture
Submitted by Amarus on January 6, 2009 - 5:51pm

I have been using this setup for a long time now, yet last night is the first time that I notice that when I run pidgin two process start with it. Is this normal? Last I remember it was just once.

These are the processes I see in my task manager

pidgin-portable.exe
PidginPortable.exe

This is my setup.

I have pidgin installed in my PC in \My Documents\PCPortableApps\PidginPortable with a series of other portable apps which I see no reason as to why I would want to install them in my PC.

MirandaPortable Missing IRC plugin...[SOLVED]

Submitted by bibliophile86 on December 29, 2008 - 2:43pm

Hello,
I noticed in that in MirandaPortable, the IRC protocol is missing in the program menus and settings.
Both the unicode and ansi IRC.dll's are installed, but the program doesn't seem to be seeing them.
I've re-downloaded the app and installed it to a different location and the problem persists.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,
bibliophile86
