Pidgin: MSN protocol fails

aduart's picture
Submitted by aduart on January 14, 2009 - 11:26am

Hello.

I am posting here after a few months with the same issue.
Last version I get connected to MSN is 2.4.3

If version is higher (2.5.4 is the last I tested), MSN connection
fails, with message:

Connection error from Notification server:
Reading error

All others protocols I use go fine: GTalk, ICQ, AOL, Yahoo, Jabber.

Only MSN fails (repeat: 2.4.3 go fine now too).

Any suggestion to get new version working in MSN ?

Thanks and regards

Eduardo.

Pidgin: 2.5.4 portable

Submitted by ddedo on January 13, 2009 - 7:45am

Ok, looks like a new version of pidgin came out, and solved the problem of MSN address not connecting.

So, i downloaded the 2.5.4 version, opened with 7zip, and:

- overwrote all the dll in the main folder to \PidginPortable\App\Pidgin
- overwrote the folders in $_OUTDIR to corresponding folders in \PidginPortable\App\Pidgin
- renamed the pidgin.exe to pidgin-portable.exe and overwrote the one in \PidginPortable\App\Pidgin

i'm testing it, and looks like everythign is working fine, also msn protocol.
BTW it fixed also the issue of the hanging and crashing upon closing.

Hey

Starting this morning I haven't been able to log into my MSN with Pidgin. I've tried on 2 separate computers from 2 separate locations (Home and Work) and still no luck Sad Also reinstalled Pidgin over top of old install with same result. My Google Talk and Facebook accounts still functioning without issue.

Any one else have this issue or a solution?

Error reads

'Username' disconnected
Unable to retrieve MSN Address Book

Two Pidgin Processes Running At Once.. Why?

Amarus's picture
Submitted by Amarus on January 6, 2009 - 5:51pm

I have been using this setup for a long time now, yet last night is the first time that I notice that when I run pidgin two process start with it. Is this normal? Last I remember it was just once.

These are the processes I see in my task manager

pidgin-portable.exe
PidginPortable.exe

This is my setup.

I have pidgin installed in my PC in \My Documents\PCPortableApps\PidginPortable with a series of other portable apps which I see no reason as to why I would want to install them in my PC.

MirandaPortable Missing IRC plugin...[SOLVED]

Submitted by bibliophile86 on December 29, 2008 - 2:43pm

Hello,
I noticed in that in MirandaPortable, the IRC protocol is missing in the program menus and settings.
Both the unicode and ansi IRC.dll's are installed, but the program doesn't seem to be seeing them.
I've re-downloaded the app and installed it to a different location and the problem persists.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,
bibliophile86

Twitter Plugin for Pidgin Portable - Installer and Source

The team over at the microblog-purple project created a Twitter plugin for Pidgin and they provide an installer for the standard install of Pidgin but it doesn't support the portable version.

So I decided to create a portable installer for this plugin. Please read the installation notes as they are very important because if you don't read them and change something the installer will not work.

Pidgin: Exiting 2.5.3 causes problems

Submitted by Bzzz on December 23, 2008 - 9:52pm

Hi,
since the 2.5.3 update my Pidgin fails at exiting. The window stays open (turns completely white) and sometimes it even freezes the whole system :/
If not, it takes quite a while until the "application hangs..." message appears.

Pidgin is usually docked at the right edge of the screen (...if that matters)
I'm running WinXP SP3

WinSCP integration with PuTTY?

Submitted by beq on December 21, 2008 - 2:06am

Does anyone know why PuTTY Portable must be started manually before WinSCP Portable can invoke it via its toolbar button? Do the standard (non-PortableApps) versions of these programs have this same limitation?

Also, I noticed that WinSCP Portable is configured to use the file "PuTTYPortableLinker.exe" as the path for the PuTTY program. Would the integration also work if I change this WinSCP setting to the direct path of the putty.exe program file (or perhaps the puttyportable.exe launcher file)?

Sorry I'm somewhat clueless...
