Ok,I'm here to ask you all how to properly update portable pidgin in my USB drive to the now latest Pidgin 2.5.2?

In the Portableapps.com Pidgin pages it says

>>>Upgrading Pidgin Portable
To upgrade to a newer version of Pidgin Portable, just install a new version over your current installation. All your settings will be preserved.

---END--

Now last time I tried to upgrade like that, my costume theme, plugins, settings/accountns and smile pack got all deleted.

differnt path for my profile - specified in the mirandaboot.ini

Submitted by muelli on October 20, 2008 - 4:25pm

Hey there,

I want to put my profile e.g. at the desktop of my computer - Miranda Portable is installed on a USB Stick through the suite (Platform Only).

Now, I edited the mirandaboot.ini like this:

ProfileDir=C:\Users\muelli\Desktop\

then I started Miranda through the suite and an error occurred:

even though I edited the .ini file ...

...after taking a look at the .ini again - it was reset like I never edited it.

Any suggestions how you can run Miranda with the .dat on a different device!?

Pidgin: Excessive USB Writing?

Submitted by Aether on October 19, 2008 - 4:00pm

Pidgin seems like it is reading/writing to the USB when it really shouldn't need to. I don't have a very fast drive, so this is noticeably annoying.

Specific instances are:
- When I double click the tray icon, bringing up my buddy list.
- When I minimize Pidgin to the system tray.
- When I open an new IM window to chat with someone.

Not only does this cause Pidgin to freeze for 1-2 seconds, but the read/writes will slow down anything else I am doing from the USB drive.

The Plugins I have enabled are:

- Guifications
- Pidgin Encryption
- Buddy State Notification

Unable to amend registry for PuTTY

Hi, I've been using various PortableApps on some heavily locked down PCs and one of the things that's locked down is amending the registry.

It seems that PuTTY and therefore PuTTY Portable does need to do this in order to save anything from previous use and to avoid a warning dialog box at startup - is there anything that can be done to prevent PuTTY using the registry at all?

Pidgin Chats

Submitted by ggrosser on October 1, 2008 - 3:35am

I have a question about accounts on Pidgin. I currently have my windows live & Facebook account set up through Pidgin. From what I understand, I will be able to chat with people on both accounts at one time, correct?

But, I do have several friends that are on other chat programs such as yahoo & ICQ. If I add them as a buddy, will I be able to chat with them even though I don't have a yahoo or ICQ account? Or would I need to create accounts in order to chat with them?
