[Closed] FocusWriter 1.73 – Interaction with Google Backup and Sync / Loss of personalised settings

Submitted by TheLearnedHand on August 13, 2019 - 12:03am

I’m probably using FocusWriter contrary to intended design but I’ve had real trouble with FW retaining my settings across multiple computers through a portableapps install synced across multiple devices with Google Backup and sync. I use portableapps + google drive to get around overly restrictive software security settings at my university and I often prefer to use FW to draft before pumping into a CMS or word processing software.

Calibre transition from "portable version" to "Portableapps version"

First, thank you for adding Calibre to Portableapps, I think it's a great addition.

As Calibre is a relatively new addition, I had installed the official "Calibre portable" version from their website and put it into the Portableapps directory. It shows up as a regular app and works well. However, I have to manually update it by downloading the portable version and then installing each time there is a new version out (which is very frequent with this program). I would like to just run the portableapps version but I don't want to lose all the settings, plugins, etc..

Calibre Updates

Submitted by jhagerty on April 5, 2019 - 12:22pm

I looks like calibre is out of date again. (3.38 vs 3.40.1).

I am willing to help keep this updated if that would be helpful. Would this be as simple as updating the binaries with the newest versions, updating the ini files for versions and re-running the installer to build the package?

Is there anything else I should know?

Joe

FoxIt Reader 9.3 LocalService.dll

Submitted by sunk818 on April 1, 2019 - 3:38pm

https://forums.foxitsoftware.com/forum/portable-document-format-pdf-tool...

I've tried on Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. I get this LocalService.dll error whenever I try to launch the portable version.

If I have FoxIt Reader (portable) already running, the PDF open fine.

I've tried to open attachments from Windows 10 Mail and Windows 7 Outlook 2013 FYI.

FoxIt 9.4 for Security Updates

I just download FoxItReader Portable. Says there is a 9.4 with security updates. I normally wouldn't care, but they specifically said security update... so I thought I should upgrade. I looked at 9.41 on FoxIt's site, but opening it up with 7Zip Portable doesn't show any extractable files.

RedNotebook - when the version 2.8 will be available as portable?

Submitted by robart on February 26, 2019 - 5:50am

Since November 2018 the RedNotebook 2.8 with the major improvement form Windows OS is available on the project page ( https://rednotebook.sourceforge.io/ ).
The internal previews are working again (before you had to view your notes using a browser, eg. Firefox).

Is there any chance to update the currently available RedNotebook Portable app from 2.6.1 to 2.8?

Solution for serious problem requires GNUcash V3.3

Submitted by ajax on October 24, 2018 - 10:34pm

The current version (3.2) of GNUcash Portable has a serious problem that is supposed to be fixed in the currently available version (3.3). Reference http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/GNC-Can-NOT-edit-scheduled-transact....

When can we expect the portable version to be updated? If not definite and soon I'm afraid I'll have to abandon the portable version.

[Fixed] Foxit 9.3 and Sumatra leave FileExts registry key that affects local associations

Submitted by vhugo2 on October 24, 2018 - 1:13pm

I have Portable Apps in a folder on my C: drive, Windows 7. Foxit 9.3 is my default PDF reader. When I launched Foxit from PortableApps, it created a registry entry in HKEY-Current user-Software-Microsoft-Windows-CurrentVersion-Explorer-FileExts-PDF and created a string PDF portable or somesuch. As a result some of my PDF files would only open with the PortableAppp version, and some with the permanent installed version. If I closed PortableApps, the files requiring it would not open.
