VLC: Wizards?

Submitted by pwright2 on December 3, 2008 - 7:55pm

When I look up instructions for using VLC as anything other than a player, I find instructions on using the wizards. But I don't find any wizards in VLC. Am I too blind to be allowed to use a computer?

VLC: Suggestion: Disable update check?

I just tried the portable VLC Media Player 0.9.6 R2 as a clean install and on first run, it displays a window and asks for some input. I just wondered if the "update check"-checkbox could be unchecked by default?

Or is the update portable?

Or does it only notify me?
Even if it only notifies me, I still preferred it to not do that cause it would certainly send me to the official page...

Can't delete libvlc.dll: is in use

Submitted by foxcole on November 11, 2008 - 12:30pm

I was preparing to install the VLC 0.9.6 update. Normally I'd just install it over the old version, but this time I wanted to delete the old version and install the new.* However, it won't let me: "Cannot delete libvlc: Access is denied."

I did not start VLC in this session, don't have it set to auto-start, and PStart is not autorunning VLC... yet there it is in System Explorer, process vlc.exe is running. In the process details, the Command Line is: "[drive]:\PortableApps\VLCPortable\App\vlc\vlc.exe" -l ntservice --How did it get this switch?

VLC: How to enable multiple instances with 0.9.4, 0.9.6?

Submitted by portamobility on November 11, 2008 - 2:45am

Tried the preferences within VLC, but testing shows the problem lies with the launcher.

Any ideas on the switch required to allow multiple instances in VLCportable.ini?

"Allow multiple instances=true" does not work.

Clicking vlc.exe for the second instance starts it up, so I tend to think that this points to a problem to the launcher.

Please post your ini file if you have this working as expected.

Problem with skins in VLC

Submitted by gregnorris on November 10, 2008 - 1:05pm

I didn't see this anywhere else so: I tried installing a skin from the official VLC site and now when I try to load VLC it immediately crashes. Is there someway I can manually access the settings (as in externally since I can't access the interface). If so what settings do I need to change to remove the skin.

This is to continue the thread in https://portableapps.com/news/2008-11-09_-_vlc_media_player_portable_0.9.6.

This is a known bug as stated here http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=52532&p=170890&hilit=flv#...

Unfortunately, the answer to the problem is to use 0.9.7, which is not officially released yet from the VLC site.
