This is to continue the thread in https://portableapps.com/news/2008-11-09_-_vlc_media_player_portable_0.9.6.

This is a known bug as stated here http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=52532&p=170890&hilit=flv#...

Unfortunately, the answer to the problem is to use 0.9.7, which is not officially released yet from the VLC site.

VLC Portable Crashing

Submitted by calc0000 on October 30, 2008 - 10:38am

Every time I run VLC Portable, and play music with it, it crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled VLC Portable, and it still crashes. However, if I am playing a video, VLC Portable will NOT crash.

All the computers i use it on are Windows XP Pro SP2.

Any ideas?

VLC Portable Launcher prevents multiple instances

Submitted by portamobility on October 28, 2008 - 5:42pm

I have cleared checkboxes in Preferences...
I know it's the launcher because I can double-click the VLC.exe and it opens up another instance, but not through the PortableApps Menu, and not through the VLCportable.exe.

Readme.txt does not indicate how to allow multiple instances as in firefoxportable.

What can I do to make this work?
Now that the user interface has been redone, this is the media app I prefer to use.

Thx.

[Fixed] VLCPortable 0.9.4 doesn't remember windows position

Submitted by MARM7.4 on October 19, 2008 - 5:12am

Like the title says, version 0.9.4 doesn't remember the windows position (Version 0.8.6 does). But if you run vlc 0.9.4 directly from the App\vlc folder it does remember it. I searched in the VLC forums, and it seems that now the window position is stored in the vlc-qt-interface.ini file in $APPDATA\vlc\ folder. So I think there is a bug in VLCPortable.nsi in the line 237:

where is :

CopyFiles /SILENT `$SETTINGSDIRECTORY\vlc-qt-interface.ini` `$APPDATA\vlc-qt-interface.ini`

I think it sould be:

Is it ok to associate video files with VLCPortable.exe?

Submitted by cch on October 15, 2008 - 8:09am

I want to double click avi and vlc will open and play, so I set VLCPortable.exe as default player. Is this ok? because it's just the launcher.

However, it works with files with Eng filename, but didn't work with Chinese filename. vlc can correctly play files with Chinese filename if I drag n' drop the file on vlc screen.

Or I should set vlc.exe as the player? What if I directly double clicked vlc.exe? Does it write entry?

Can anyone help me please? Thanks.

VLC: problem clicking on files in explorer

Submitted by Eemilyvr1 on October 9, 2008 - 9:39pm

I've been using VLC Portable as my default media player on my main computer (manually edited the windows file associatons to point to VLC Portable) and since updating to 0.9.4 I'm having a slight problem.

I've checked allow only one instance but if I'm already playing a file it won't allow me to click on a file in explorer (dragging and dropping onto the VLC window works fine) and have it start playing. I get this error:
Another instance of VLC is already running. Please close other instances of VLC before launching VLC Media Player Portable.
