VLC Windows Support

Submitted by Cassandra on October 7, 2008 - 9:44pm

I've just figured out that VLC stopped supporting only ancient Windows 95/98/Me. They are still fully supporting 2000/XP/Vista. So, there is no need for PortableApps to stop releasing portable versions of VLC, right?

Come on guys, those versions of Windows are way too old. The fact that VLC had stopped supporting them shouldn't be important.

VLC 0.9.3

Just released. So new they've not fully updated their links yet, but that should be resolved shortly. They claim bug fixes, so here's to hoping it's stable enough for portability.

I can't get VLC to work

Submitted by Melanie on September 25, 2008 - 1:50am

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place as most of these posts seem very technical and I'm definitely not! I am running Vista V6.0 Business and am struggling to get VLC to work. When I click on the application the player loads and identifies a DVD when I load it. However, when I try to open the disk, a lot of whirring occurs (ie the system can see the disk) but that's as far as it goes. Am I being really stupid? I would be very grateful for any help. Please remember - I am not at all technical! Thanks.

Hi,

I have got Windows Media Player on my machine and want to use VLC - i installed VLC player 0.9.2 and the VLC player was automatically set as default on my machine which is good. Now when i play any video files on my machine it automatically opens up VLC player and plays it.

VLC Subtitles Problem

Submitted by BillSagat on September 10, 2008 - 3:56pm

Hi,
I am trying to play an avi file with embedded subtitles. I can see the subtitles track under Video>Subtitles Track, however I am not able to get the subtitles to show on the screen. The Messages window shows the following information.

main error: failed to open OSD definition file osdmenu/default.cfg
main error: creating OSD menu object failed
osdmenu error: osdmenu filter discarded

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can correct this problem?

Thanks

VLC: automatically launch file

Submitted by glederfein on September 7, 2008 - 10:00am

Hi all!
I use VLC Portable mainly to listen to my favorite jazz station (WBGO). Anyways, I'm getting tired of always having to copy the streaming audio link of the station into VLC. Is there a way for the stream to automatically load once I open VLC? That would be very useful.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
glederfein
