How portable are plugins for FFportable?

Submitted by sweatshirt on April 16, 2010 - 4:39pm

I am trying to create a CD with FFportable and a set of HTML pages and PDF docs.
The PDF docs are accessed via the HTML pages.

on vista:
- created a directory with FFportable and html pages to show
- copied the contents of the plugins directory of the FF version installed on vista to the plugins directory for FFportable
- created bootable ISO file from directory
- mounted ISO
- FFportable starts ok
- selecting a PDF file from a html page launches plugin (nppdf32.dll) to view the PDF
- started virtual machine running W2K.

on W2K:
- copied the bootable ISO file to W2K

Gmail Gears Offline downloading EVERYTHING!

Submitted by Also on April 15, 2010 - 1:24pm

Well...
Love and use Portable Firefox.
Managed to install Gears on to it so I can use offline GMail :oD
However- it seems to want to download EVERYTHING swamping my 2gb drive with 7gb of e-mail (which of course doesn't fit) where upon Firefox fails to load and crashes due to lack of space!

Anyone got an idea as to whether this is a case I need to tweak the local settings manually somewhere?

Stop Addons window popping-up

Submitted by freDDy1 on April 11, 2010 - 10:50am

Hi everybody, I jumped from FirefoxPortable version 2.0.0.12 to fresh install of version 3.6.3. So far so good.

When starting FirefoxPortable, the addon’s windows is always popping up, indicating the installation of “global installs” such as ‘Java Quick Starter’, ‘.net Framework’.

I don’t want to stop the checking or installing, I just want to stop that “addon’s window” popping up for ANY install.

I couldn’t find anything appropriate in the .js file or this forum. Does anyone know the correct config to stop this window popping up after start/restart.

JAVA with Firefox (no administrator rights)

Submitted by Boulder257 on April 7, 2010 - 3:10pm

I am able to use the Firefox portable app and use the browser, but I am unable to view anything that is Java. I have downloaded and installed the portable java, but it does not seem to be recognized. How can I get java content through the portable browser if I do not have an administrator password to install?

Running second instance

Submitted by iantresman on April 5, 2010 - 8:13am

I have regular Firefox 3.6 running fine, but would like to launch Firefox Portable running as a second copy (ie. multiple instance) of Firefox. This allows me to keep separate bookmarks and histories.

I've checked other threads about "Question: run two firefox-portables simultaneously?", and other issues regarding running "Another instance", but I still get an error message that "another instance of firefox is already running".

IE security update killed Portable Firefox?

Submitted by KevinTMC on March 31, 2010 - 3:19pm

Microsoft Update just installed KB980182, a security update for IE. Upon reboot, my Portable Firefox could no longer connect to anything on the Internet. ("Firefox can't establish a connection to the server...") No Firefox settings were changed. Other browsers I have installed locally (IE, Opera) work fine.

Anyone else having this problem?
