Resolved, Sort of:Trouble Running Open Office Portable from USB

Submitted by jaurand on April 25, 2008 - 6:59am

I downloaded Open Office Portable v2.4 from PortableApps.com. I installed the software to my hard drive. I was able to access the applications.

I then copied the app folder to the \PortableApps directory on my USB drive. Now when I run OOp, the splash screen displays, and then it goes away and nothing happens.

I'm new to Open Office and Open Office Portable, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Are there config files or error logs I should be reviewing?

I'm running on a Dell Inspiron 1505 w/Windows XP MCE SP2.

Thanks!

Hi guys, just wanted to know if there is any support to open any MS Office 2007 files. I'm not able to open any Word documents with the docx extension. Same goes for Excel and other Office 2007 applications. I know I should actually look at the OpenOffice website, but thought that any of you guys might have a work-around. Office 2003 stuff opens fine.

I have a slow dial-up conection, is allmost impossible to me download openoffice without Torent or ftp download, so I can download a little per day and restart the download each time.
So you have an alternative download?

OpenOffice to MS Office

Submitted by Devo on April 21, 2008 - 1:43pm

I know this probably doesn't belong is these forums, but seeing as John made a tutorial for configuring Firefox to look like Internet Explorer, I was hoping he would have some insight on this. I have recently started using OpenOffice and find it a bit confusing. I was wondering if there was a way to configure it to look more like Word, Excel, etc.? Are there any online walkthroughs or extensions I could install? I tried looking on google but couldn't really find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Portable Open Office Base doesn't appear in pApps start menu

Submitted by ledoctom on April 21, 2008 - 5:16am

Good Morning,

Everything in the title : since 2.4 version the base icon is not in the portable apps start menu, but its present in the application folder as well as the other. It's not a big issue since i can access it anyway, but it's an anomaly so i wonder why....

Thanks for your help,

Have a nice day
