Updates, organization.

I have my portable apps in my own folder, organised my own way, so they are not sutable for PortableApps.com Platform. It's OK, I used to use shortcuts to access them. But updating is not very comfortable though. I have to download paf file and install it over my old ver app. I thought maybe if there were an option to add portable app to PortableApps.com Platform from outer place, I could update them with it. Or maybe if there were an option while installing paf file to install also *update.exe besides *portable.exe.

An installed app is NOT recognized by PA

I hope the topic isn't to redundant but I have already spent several hours trying to figure this issue out including searching through the forum threads. I can't find an answer that makes any sense in my situation.

I have a favorite program, idailydiary (Splinterware) and have used it with PortableApps in the past. I've been using the program and PA for several years. All I had to do was install the programs to my USB drive in the PA folder and refresh the icons. It has always shown up with no problem.

Request new feature: Pause a moment after clicking before vanishing menu

Submitted by jwinter on April 12, 2012 - 12:27am

I become very used to using the old "geek.menu" which had this feature (probably by accident of its slowness) and really miss it on the new portableapps menu. Typically when I start work I want to fire up 4 or 5 apps one after the other and not always the same ones. With the old menu I was able to simply slide down the list with the mouse giving each one I wanted a click to start it up, and all was done in a fraction of a second.

How to turn *off* proxy access to internet?

Submitted by jwinter on April 12, 2012 - 12:09am

Our university has recently changed their internet access settings so that going via a proxy is no longer required. However I cannot find out how to prevent portableapps from always asking for a proxy username and password and consequently updating and getting more apps does not work anymore.

The problem is that I don't remember how I turned the proxy settings on, so I can't think how to turn them off again!

I have set "use no proxy" in both installed firefox, portable firefox, and installed internet explorer, but none of these seems to have any effect.

Installer?

Submitted by konic on April 11, 2012 - 9:08am

Hi,
I am kinda confused with name of the app - Installer (PA.c Installer).
I mean, what does it install?
Based on the description I understand that it is more like a "packager" rather than "installer":
"..Installer allows you to quickly package your portable apps.."

PortableApps.com Platform - suggestion for compact version ??

Submitted by kermit.frog on March 28, 2012 - 2:46pm

What can I say...

I like the idea of portable apps where I can carrying around a selection of programs without having to install them wherever I go...(like in work - I can't install ANYTHING)

BUT.....the one thing I DON'T like

Why such a large launcher menu ??
Can we not have a more compact version on offer ???
