How can a person check Tucan

Submitted by Frank D. Hubeny on August 19, 2008 - 9:05am

Hello Group;

How can a person check to see if Tucan Version Two actually does make a mirror of all of the files from a source drive.

I would like to mirror my source which is my Archive hard drive. My destination is a Iron Key Flash drive.

I have seen some posts suggsting to check the two but have no idea how or what program to use to do this. I would like to do this about once a month. But do not want to end up with missing files on my destination drive.

Sync some files only without subdirs

Submitted by CarlosCastaneda on August 18, 2008 - 4:54pm

Hi all,

I just tried to set up a simple sync job for some files within a directory and without traversing subdirecties. My approach is to specify the source and targetfolder and a rule in with exclusion of all files "*.*", all directories "*"
and include all my files "j*.pdf".
First of all my rules don't work (at least concerning my expectations) and secondly I'm running into an RegExp error (presumably the file exlusion RegExp).

I'm not sure how to specify to Update some files based on a file pattern.

Any help is appreciated.

Sync Problems

Submitted by Twinnol on August 15, 2008 - 9:31am

I just installed the new Toucan today, and I have run into some problems. I was trying a mirror-update sync with some old saved jobs in toucan that used to work fine. They had some files that were supposed to be excluded. When I did the sync the files were not excluded. So I deleted the job and made a new one with new rules for file exclusions. I found though, that Toucan would not remove the folders and files that were supposed to be excluded in the mirror update even though in the preview it said it was going to remove the stuff.

V2 Rules not working for me

Submitted by NCL on August 14, 2008 - 12:54pm

Like the new interface, but having problems with backup. I set up my rules and can see the results with preview. I get my exclusions where I want and are shown in red. But the program still backs up the files and folders in Red that are supposed to be excluded. It backs up my whole flash drive regardless. What I'm I doing wrong?

Hi,

I've been using the previous version for several months, and I just switched to version 2.0. There are some differences between the version, and I'm trying to figure out what I am doing wrong.

1 - Security tab

When I create a job, I can encrypt my data without problem. When I reselect the job, it seems the job is automatically set to decrypt the data on next use (which is fine). However sometime it takes a while when I select an encrypt/decrypt job (30 seconds to 1 minutes) before the application become responsive again.

Auto-sync on program start

Submitted by joemerchant on August 13, 2008 - 3:29pm

I'm working on altering my autoexec.inf file so Toucan automatically starts when I plug in my flash drive. When it starts, I want it to automatically sync my files - through a job I would save within Toucan. Then when I was done on that computer, I would manually run the job again.

But I don't know how to do the auto sync part. Can I do that in the .inf file?
Please excuse the pseudo code...
like "open=/files/toucan.exe jobname"

Thanks.

I saw a similar post but it seemed like it was for a script in the windows OS, not on the usb drive.

Command Line Encryption Problems

Submitted by rone on July 26, 2008 - 1:05pm

I have been using Toucan 1.1.2 successfully for several months now and decided to upgrade to the latest version (1.2.2) because of its support for AES encryption. I was able to encrypt and decrypt without issue using the 1.2.2 version GUI dialogs. However, I have not been able to get Toucan to work properly from my batch command (which has worked fine for months) with the new version.

Is there an issue with the command line interface for encryption?

If so, when do you expect it to be corrected?

Thanks!

Great piece of s/w....

I just kissed a bunch of sensitive documents goodbye

, thanks to decrypting in Blowfish with a wrong password. I didn't even KNOW that a wrong password would result to the destruction of my data!

In my 15 years of using freeware (or comercial software, for that matter) it's the biggest "disaster" that has happened to me.

Security software is too serious for such (obvious) bugs...
