Aggregating jobs

Submitted by pdireito on July 25, 2008 - 10:13am

First I’d like to congratulate the development team for creating this very simple yet very complete application. I use it for almost everything and it’s far beyond more simple and efficient when comparing with other applications. I’m a IT professional working in ERP implementations and I always use it for my both professional and personal backup’s.

My only question is if it is possible to execute all configured jobs with an unique command? (when the first finishes the second automatically starts)

Best regards

Equalize Overwrite?

Submitted by BenBl on July 16, 2008 - 1:51am

I Equalized 2 folders. I had files in each folder with the same content, size and time stamp. My understanding of the Equalize function was that of two Updates. It should have ignored both files, right? Instead, the preview showed the file as "Overwrote". What am I missing?
Thanks.
BTW, besides my ignorant apprehension, I love the program. Great work, keep it up!

Command Line error

Submitted by schwooba on July 9, 2008 - 5:48pm

First of all, great app!!!

I'm getting an error when I try to run a backup or a sync from the command line.

I type in toucan "backup123" and it spits out a pvars.png and other .png files from the details button. When I run it using the toucan.exe from the \app\toucan directory, it runs fine.

Any ideas why this is happening? Is it designed like this? I'm running the latest 2.0 Pre-release 6.

Backup doesn't exclude folders?

Submitted by RandoX on July 7, 2008 - 2:04pm

If this is a known issue, I apologize. I briefly looked through the forum and didn't see this issue.

I'm using Toucan (portable) for the first time, and I'd like to use it to backup everything on my USB drive except my MP3 and Kino folder (off the root). I've tried entering each of the following in the Folder Exclude box, but none of them seem to work:

MP3
Kino
MP3\
Kino\
\MP3
\Kino
\MP3\
\Kino\
D:\MP3
D:\Kino
D:\MP3\
D:\Kino\
@drive@\MP3
@drive@\Kino
@drive@\MP3\
@drive@\Kino\
@drive@MP3\
@drive@Kino\

Exclude a folder doesn't work with Synchronisation Miror (update)

Submitted by Newzic on July 4, 2008 - 6:25pm

Hello, I want to make a "Synchronisation Miror Update" with exclude a folder, for example, for my folder source:
!!!Achat - 2008 0618 - Bridge retourné
in C:\Mes documents

I want to exclude this folder for not to update it on the destination folder. I put:
!!!Achat - 2008 0618 - Bridge retourné

in the exclude field, but that do not work, this folder is update in the destination folder. I try other solutions, to write in the exclude field:

!!!Achat - 2008 0618 - Bridge retourné

Toucan is right for me?

Submitted by MichaelTaylor on July 4, 2008 - 1:23pm

What I'm looking for is a piece of software that if my USB drive gets stolen, the contents are encrypted and password protected so the bad guy can't get to them.

Toucan looks good, but I get the impression from the screenshots that I have to decrypt the drive every time I want to use it. Is that the case?

I'm looking for a simple software package that I can set up the encryption paths once and set a password to protect them. Then every time the correct password is entered, the drive is decrypted automagically.

Does that make any sense?

Thanks!

Newbie Question - Add/Update only

Submitted by kepstein on June 22, 2008 - 9:05pm

I have an archive on the destination drive, and only want to add to and update files in the archive. The files on the source drive will be deleted manually after being added to the archive. I never want to delete files in the destination drive (although they can be overwritten with a newer version). Is this the way the Function "Update" works?

Checksum / Hash capability

Submitted by USBman on June 9, 2008 - 6:00pm

I'd like to suggest that Toucan go one step further, and do checksum verification of files, rather than just checking timestamps

This would be done for a number of reasons, including (in order of importance):

1) to be sure that copied files are actually valid,
2) it might clear up some of the issues cited here (https://portableapps.com/node/13441). Perhaps Toucan could run a backup and then offer a dialog with timestamp and checksum info for the files in question, and offer a couple of choices about which action the user wants.

Not enough space on disk? (Not as dumb as you're thinking)

Submitted by Pyrogenesis on June 4, 2008 - 8:00pm

I'm trying to backup a 16.8GB folder over a network. The drive I am backing up to has 219GB of free space, but when I start the backup it says this:

System Error: There is not enough space on the disk

The settings are:

Backup Type: update
Backup Format: 7 Zip
Compression Ratio: normal

Any ideas on this?
