Small suggestions for the app page

Submitted by KlfJoat on April 15, 2008 - 1:40pm

A couple of small things I noticed on the main app page at https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/toucan. I'm not a drive-by nit-picker, as I have donated to the PortableApps project.

1) "Rijndael" is misspelled

2) "Rijndael" is more commonly known as AES. It might be better to advertise it as such for less technical users.

And I'd like to second the call for rsync capabilities in this program. Possibly including a call out to PuTTY for SSH encrypting the rsync stream.

Zip Archive per file

Apologies if this has already been mentioned on the forums. I had a quick look but didn't find anything.

Is it possible or are there any plans to have the backup create one zip file for each file in a backup set?

I'm a little nervous about having all files go into one huge zip file because if the zip file corrupts then you're basically up a certain creek. To me, if this happens, it sort of defeats the purpose of having a backup in the first place.

Toucan & Pocketpc SD Card

Submitted by dkfif on April 11, 2008 - 5:14pm

I love Toucan and use it to encrypt data files on a USB drive I carry on my keychain. I also have a pocketpc (Samsung I760) with a 4G SD card. Most of the Time I change data is with my phone to the data on the SD card of my phone. My USB drive is basically a backup after changes to the phone's data.

Lots of problems with this.
I'm running mirror(update) preview (equalise does the same as output 2). When I do source A dest B, I get the first output. Source B dest A gets the second output. File drums.gif (oops not shown) is overwritten even though it has the same MD5, and the timestamp is only one second off.

Is this a bug? Can I prevent it by checking 'retain attributes'?

Toucan 1.2.1.1: Parameter is incorrect, zip format, incremental backup

Submitted by siroquen on April 5, 2008 - 8:41am

Hi all,

I get the following error when trying to do an incremental backup of one of my folders. I have also tried Toucan 1.2.2 PR2, but the same thing happens. I have also tried using a newer version of 7-Zip: nothing changes.

Any ideas?
