Combine with PAM?

Submitted by StephenQ on August 14, 2007 - 7:15am

Toucan is a great program, however it would possibly be of more use if it became part of PAM. PAM already has a backup/restore to 7z files and such.
Has John or Steve ever considered merging its features into the menu?
Surely it wouldnt add too much bloat, theres already portableappsbackup that it could replace.

I hope you can see what angle im coming from here and what i mean.

Exclude directory

Submitted by mprindle on August 13, 2007 - 3:49pm

I'm trying to figure out how to exclude a directory during an incremental BU. I want to exclude a directory called, lets say, dir1.

In the exclusion box I click the + enter dir1 and click ok. I start my backup, yet I see in the backup list that it's still backing up stuff from dir1.

Suggestions?

Display not updating during backup

Submitted by mprindle on August 13, 2007 - 2:49pm

Hello,

Just got Toucan installed and I'm very impressed. I have been wanting something to make it easy to backup my stick. One bug I have noticed is that the backup window will stop updating for periods of time. The backup is still proceeding because the backup file is still growing. It's not that big of a deal, but it's nice to see what's going on.

Full file path is not showed during Sync

Submitted by heckevin on August 10, 2007 - 10:11am

Thanks a lot for this great work! This is just what I am looking for in last few months.
There is something confused me. When I sync between two folders by using equalize function, the file path (shown in the window or log file) is not in full, so I do not know which part (source or destination) is overwrote. Is there any way to fix it?
Another issue is that when I sync the two folders by using equalize function, I think it will compare the files in these two location and overwrite the old version with new version, is that right? But some files are overwritten even they are the same.

Slashes doubled in portable variables

Submitted by Eric L on August 8, 2007 - 11:03pm

Noticed what I think is a bug in the Portable Variables section. Seems that any backslashes get doubled each time the program is restarted. Since the portable variables are supposed to point to differing locations on different machines, I would think backslashes would be common. This causes operations that use them to fail after the first use.

Backup Feature request

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on August 7, 2007 - 4:46am

Could an additional option be added to the backup page to enable direct backup to an encrypted (7z) archive please? I am doing a backup from an encrypted volume to an unencrypted one, and don't want to leave unencrypted copies of data on the unencrypted volume.

Cheers.

Directory Exclusions Based On Path

Submitted by TheQwerty on August 6, 2007 - 9:52am

Is there a way to exclude a directory based on its path?

For instance say I have the following structure:
.\Project
.\Project\Build
.\Project\Helper
.\Project\Helper\Build

I'd like to backup .\Project but I want to exclude .\Project\Build.
If I enter .\Project\Build or Project\Build in the excludes the backup contains all 4 directories.
If I enter Build in the excludes it also excludes .\Project\Helper\Build and only backs up .\Project and .\Project\Helper.
It seems to be only looking at the directory name and not its path.

Is there a way to achieve this currently?
