[Closed] GIMP: 2.8.2 still getting the unknown file type error

Hi, still getting the errors when trying to use GIMP. Tried downloading and reloading it twice and the other fixes for it as previously recommended, but no go. The previous GIMP worked fine.

My computer is a HP Compaq with XP Pro SP3 and Trend Micro Officescan as the virus checker.

Maybe I'm not getting something pointed at the right place, or Trend Micro is blocking something.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Don.

This is a very strange one. Let me explain it as short as possible to
you:

I have two PCs. Let's call them "PC-A" and "PC-B". Both are running with
windows xp SP1. On PC-A gimp 2.8.2 portable runs perfectly. On PC-B gimp
2.8.2 portable doesn't even start.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The error messages on PC-B are:

Error 1:

SideBySide:

Syntax error in the manifest or policy file
"I\71tools\11grafic\gimp\22run\GIMPPortable\
App\gimp\bin\gimp-2.8.exe" in line 3.

Error 2:

GIMP: Can't edit hotkeys via menurc

Submitted by Jakobud on August 10, 2012 - 12:52pm

I'm trying to use the ps-menurc file found online to replace the menurc used in GIMP in order to give GIMP, Photoshop-like hotkeys. In the PortableGimp folder, I have found the following 3 menurc files:

DefaultData\.gimp\menurc
DefaultData\settings\menurc
gimp\etc\gimp\2.0\menurc

I have tried changing all 3 files. Whenever I open up Gimp, none of the hotkeys appear to have used any of the three above menurc files.

How do I change these without doing it all manually through the interface?

GIMP 2.8 folder paths won't update drive letter changes

Submitted by rutmang on July 5, 2012 - 2:28pm

Hello all. I'm curious if anyone else out there is having this issue.

1.) I open/extract the GIMP 2.8 portable package on my desktop
2.) Make some configuration changes (copy fonts, brushes, scripts to the appropriate paths in the child DATA folder.
3.) Test and runs great!
4.) I MOVE the whole app folder to my removable disk drive.
5.) It opens, but now all brushes are missing.
6.) Check the Preferences...Folders...Brushes directory and it is pointing to my local disk Desktop folder.

GIMP: file size to big

Submitted by omegadragonstar on June 24, 2012 - 12:56am

after clicking file /open the pictures show the correct size but the preview says there 1.3gb and refuses to load the thumbnails.
Saving is the same way as well says there 1.3gb or in some cases bigger which making a file under a certain size hard.
ive formatted the drive and zeroed it as well the problem is still there and also tried it on win xp and ubuntu/wine all seem to have the problem as well. i can post links to pictures of the problem if needed.

im using the latest Gimp 2.8 portable revision

I have been using GIMP portable for years. I am now using the latest version - 2.8 rev 4.
In the previous several versions, I have been able to open PDF files in GIMP. However in this version, when I try to open a PDF file I get an "unknown file type error"
Specific symptoms:
In the Portable GIMP, File>Open...
- If I select the file type filter to All Images, PDF files do not appear.
- If I search through the file type filters for Portable Document format, it does not exist.

GIMP Potable Compromise?

Submitted by learton on June 4, 2012 - 10:13am

Hello,

I am totally new to using GIMP.

I just downloaded GIMP Portable.

The set up looks different then what I expected.

Is the PortableApps site the offical site to download GIMP Portable?

Also I have been told that using the portable version would be compromising functionality?

Can someone clarify these things for me?

Thank you
