I am running Windows 8 64 bit with Gimp 2.8.4 on a USB drive but I am not using the PortableApp Suite/launcher but rather just straight from the Gimp folder in the root. I have been unable to get any .py to work in the portable gimp versions from 2.8.2 to 2.8.4 (all revisions). I saw a note on other people having the problem in 2.8.2 - resolved in 2.8.2 rev 2 (but not for me). Same post described a launcher.ini with reference to python so I had a check (with notepad) and that file and the file which came with the newer 2.8.4 looks fine.

I am trying to download the latest gimp, but getting an error that he file could not be found.

I was simply clicking the green button on the gimp page.

I did a clean install of 2.8.6, when starting this hangs for 20 seconds during startup, loading fonts, if I do a clean install of 2.8.2 this is not happening. Everytime I start 2.8.6 it scans all fonts and all plugins as if it was started for the first time, this is also not happening with 2.8.2.
I noticed that the defaultdata\.gimp contains almost no folders in 2.8.6, if I check this with 2.8.2 there are a lot of folders like brushes, gradients and so on.

Anyone else having this issue?

Recently my AVG scanner claimed that a few files from gimp portable (version 2.8.4) where malware.

The claimed infections are:

gimp.pyd.debug
gimpcolour.pyd.debug
gimpthumb.pyd.debug
_gimpenums.pyd.debug
_gimpui.pyd.debug

These files can be found in:
App/gimp/lib/gimp/2.0/python/

I scanned these files in virustotal.com and two more vendors claimed they are malware (VBA32 and Trend Micro).

im ussing black windows theme for windows so i wanted to have black theme for gimp and no such thing existed so i just
made modification of gimp theme green heart which is modification of blue heart theme for gimp

place extracted FOLDER to \GIMP Portable\App\gimp\share\gimp\2.0\themes
than just start Gimp hit edit>preferences>themes and choose Zero Gimp

NOTE !!!
after changing theme restart Gimp or the font will be black (after restart it will be white and visible)

When I try to start GIMP Portable (v2.8.2 Rev_2) on my Win7 (64bit) PC, I get an error message from PortableApps.com Launcher: "Another instance of GIMP Portable is starting. Please wait for it to start before launching it again." After hitting OK the program does not start. Obviously I checked whether another instance is really running, or I even tried it straight after boot-up, but without success.

Other symptoms:
- The same happens for uTorrent and JDownloader Portable, but not for others (e.g. VLC Player Protable is starting OK)

HI Folks;

I notice that the GIMP site now offers a downloadable extension pack for GIMP 2.8 (windows) loaded with some very useable plug-ins.

I tried to install it to GIMP Portable with no luck. Tried to trick the installer by loading GIMP on my PC then switching it out with GIMP Portable. It installed, but would not show up when I put GIMP Portable back on my memory stick.

Has anyone the knowhow or inclination to convert the plug-ins in the Windows extension pack so they will run with GIMP Portable?
