How to get Gimp Portable to use Ghostscript Portable

Submitted by CNBlackwood on February 2, 2012 - 8:32am

Apparently GIMP uses Ghostscript in order to import eps images. I have both Gimp Portable and Ghostscript Portable installed, and when I try to import an eps file in Gimp, I get a message saying Gimp couldn't find Ghostscript and to try using the environment variable GS_PROG to indicate where it is.

Inkscape Portable with Textext (MikTex, pstoedit, gs)

Submitted by thkin6 on August 14, 2011 - 4:06pm

Hi,

I managed to get Inkscape Portable with its extension Textext (used to write latex equations directly in Inkscape) to work with MikTex, pstoedit and ghostscript in a fully portable package. No need to add stuff to the PATH as usually required for these apps on Windows.

Here's a link to the full package (zipped) 161MB [old version 0.48]

GIMP not working!

Submitted by mikimi on March 7, 2011 - 1:12am

Hi everybody,

I still have the same problem which is described under the post "[Fixed] GIMP Portable 2.6.11 does not open other file types then XCF".

  • I already posted there but since no one was answering I thought maybe it's because it says it's "FIXED" but it isn't ...

If I drag files to GIMP the message appears:

    Plug-in crashed: "file-jpeg.exe"
    (X:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable\App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\file-jpeg.exe)

GIMP: File types missing in open file (again)

When the installation directory is moved and the user doesnt have write access for the file "App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\environ\default.env" the "open file" dialog shows only *.xcf. This means that CD or server installations wont work.

Cause: GIMPPortable adjusts the contents of the file to the new location. If this fails, everything seems to be normal, but file formats other than xcf are not available.

    Steps to reproduce:

    • Install GIMPPortable and verify that it works correctly
    • Move (dont copy!) the directory to a different location
