GIMP: A/V false positive

Submitted by jelolley on May 30, 2012 - 4:44pm

I just installed GIMP on my Google Drive and my Microsoft Security Essentials flags the file 'imagemap.exe' as containing the trojan PWS:Win32/Lineage.gen!C.dam (password-stealing). I've scanned through the forums and site and have seen only one other post regarding anything similar. In their case it was Norton and the 'imagemap.exe' and 'file-compressor.exe' were flagged. I haven't seen any other info on any false positives. MSE does not flag the latter file.

GIMP: "Photoshop Layout"

Can you guys please correct this? GIMP is not "Photoshop" and should not be labeled as such. It is single-window mode not "Photoshop Layout".
It's like saying PA.Com is a U2 Drive software(Or whatever that software that comes on certain drives is;), which it is not....
I am sure that more than just one GIMP enthusiast is a little perturbed at this.

[Fixed] GIMP Portable 2.8.0 Rev 4 - Unknown image file type errors

Submitted by RRRob on May 18, 2012 - 12:42pm

I'm unable to get GIMP to recognize any image file format other than its own .XCF format. Any way I try to open an image file (file open dialog, drag and drop, set GIMP to be default editor, etc.), GIMP simply responds with an "Unknown file type" error. Image files other than .XCF don't appear in the file open dialog unless the "All Files" option is selected, and even then GIMP can't generate thumbnail previews of them.

[Fixed] GIMP Portable 2.8.0 Rev 4 - help browser doesn't work

Submitted by Double Impact on May 18, 2012 - 8:34am

I'm sorry to break the silence.
John, I know you're tired of this - but the problem is that
App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\help-browser.exe hasn't
been replaced in 2.8.0 Rev 4 with the working one from
GIMP_Portable_Help_Fix_2.8.0.paf.exe

Just be aware that help-browser.exe must reside in the
App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins folder.
In the above-mentioned fix it was mistakenly placed in
App\gimp\bin folder alongside with libgtkhtml-2-0.dll

[Fixed] GIMP: data: tool-presets folder defined but never made

Submitted by MichaelDW on May 10, 2012 - 10:43am

In the user settings,
the tool-presets folder is defined.
But it is never made in the user folder (data\.gimp\).
This makes the saving of tool presets unreliable.
The creation of ..\data\.gimp\tool-presets
fixes the problem, and makes saving the tool presets reliable and useful.

COMODO Cloud Scanner Alert points to gimpportable

Submitted by dlbilcik on May 9, 2012 - 7:50pm

A cloud scanner alert "A malicious item has been detected!" has started popping up after my last application update and pointing at a gimpportable sub-file.

Name: TrojWare.Win32.FraudPack...
Location: G:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable\App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\python\_gimpenums.pyd.debug

What is the best way of getting rid of the pop-up alert? I ran a scan with SuperAntiSpyware and the drive was clean so I don't believe there is a real problem. I tried hitting the ignore button in the alert window and was given the following(Ignore) choices:

"Once"
"Add to Trusted Files"
