Help with mailing lists

Submitted by JeffNeedle on April 22, 2007 - 9:01pm

Hello. I have a question, and I hope someone can help me.

I'm using Portable Tbird on an WinXP SR2 system. I have just imported a list of 30 names into the address book. A new list was created -- it has the folder icon to the left of the book. What I really wanted to do was to import the data into a mailing list beneath the Personal Address Book. I will be sending posts to this list as a bcc: so that users won't see the names of others on the list.

Can't move e-mails

Submitted by hornakapopolis on April 21, 2007 - 5:43pm

It seems that every time I move an e-mail out of one of my accounts' inboxes into any of the Local Folders folders, the message gets deleted.

I have 6 accounts. 3 have their own inbox and 3 use the "Global Inbox." They were all initially configured that way. I have filters setup for the 3 "Global Inbox" to direct them into their own folders. (Those folders are in "Local Folders," too.) If I send mail, they are filtered correctly and show up. But once they are dragged (or moved through the context menu) they disappear.

Thunderbird2 appears to overwrite e-mails

Submitted by ChrisCS on April 21, 2007 - 10:48am

I downloaded TB2 beta 2 to give it a try and found that every alternate e-mail in my in-box looked as though it had another message superimposed on it. When RC1 was released I un-installed the beta version and installed the RC1 version but still got the same problem. I have installed it in several thumb drives, always with a similar result - some messages look as if there is another message superimposed on it although now it is not every alternate message but just random messages.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did they resolve it (if they did)?

notification

i just installed the version 2 rc and everything works great but there is one thing that i can not figure out. in the old version it would put an icon in the taskbar when you had new email. i still get the popup notifications but those go away after a while so if i come back to my machine there is nothing to tell me i have an email. i used to just be able to glance down at th taskbar and see an icon. is there a setting i am missing?

A way to read email without download to the drive?

Submitted by zachms on April 20, 2007 - 5:54pm

I would like to use TBP to access my imap accounts without saving any of the messages I read onto the drive. My driveis only 2 gigs, and I store other work on there. Is this possible via IMAP? I just want TBP to get on the server, let me read my mail, then disconnect and leave all the mail on the server not on my thumbdrive.

Deleted Folder Keeps Appearing

Submitted by Jakanden on April 20, 2007 - 7:51am

Hey all,

I am using Thunderbird Portable version 1.5.0.10 (20070221) and everytime I delete a local folder (that I didn't create) called "Pending", Thunderbird restores it at next lauch.

I have gone into F:\Applications\Portable Apps Suite\Thunderbird Portable\Data\profile\Mail\Local Folders and deleted the pending.sbd, pending.msf and pending files, but it still recreates them and adds the folder.

Any ideas?

TBird 2 RC1 upgrade - Additional gray bar/text at bottom

Submitted by wolvie on April 19, 2007 - 1:51pm

Like others, I had the gray bar at the bottom after upgrading to 2-RC1. Removing the '/.../offline.manifest' file cleared up most of it, however, I am still seeing a gray bar a the bottom and have the following text in it (in red):

menuitem
----------------^

(the "menuitem" text is indented to line up with the ^, and it has a "

I saw Thunderbird 2.0 came out yesterday. Does anyone know what the lag time is till the portable version might be out?

Thanks

P.S. I love PortableApps. The idea of taking my email and stuff with me on a small USB flash drive is so amazing. I love it! Thanks to everyone who has made it possible!
