Thunderbird Portable

Normal version of Thunderbird and the Portable Apps version.

Submitted by _Shadow_ on November 9, 2007 - 8:21am

I would like to download some themes for my Portable Apps. Thunderbird, but I have version 1.5.0.13. The two themes I wanted only work for 2.0 and 2.0.0. I was wondering whether if I downloaded the newest 2.0.0.6 version from here, would it support those two themes?

If not; could I download the normal Thunderbird 2.0 version in place of the Portable Apps. version? If I replaced the Portable Apps. version with the normal version, would I still keep all of my emails?

No connections access in portable Thunderbird

Submitted by johnbrainerd on November 7, 2007 - 12:38pm

I have portableapps along with portabletor. Firefox works fine with Tor, but Thunderbird does not. In TB under Options| Advanced, there is no "Network & Disk Space" tab. The tab is called "Offline & Disk Space" and thus there is no way to set the connection settings to manual proxy configuration. Is there a work-around for this?

Cannot send or reply to an email. Help!!!

I am loving the portable apps!! A problem that I am having with Thunderbird is that when I click to reply or just to create an email to send - The Compose window pops up but the from has "..." in it. I can put in email addresses in the "To" I can enter a Subject but I cannot do anything in the body of the email. I can't copy/paste. I can't use the controls to add a smiley. I can't get a cursor inside of the body to type anything.

Has anyone ever seen this in Thunderbird or Thunderbird Portable? Any ideas of how to fix it? I am using the latest version 2.0.0.6.

Drafts: too much saving going on

Submitted by fergus on November 5, 2007 - 6:59am

If I take longer than 5 minutes to compose an email, then the current version gets saved to Drafts every 5 minutes or so (eg this morning: 11:39, 11:44, 11:49, 11:51, ...) Even if the completed email is eventually Sent, the preliminary sequence of drafts remains in Drafts. Only emails taking less than 5 minutes to compose leave no trail.
Of course, un-Sent emails are rather usefully saved to Drafts, though it would be more convenient if one version only, the final one, was saved.

Hello everybody,

I just installed TB portable on a USB memory device, so I can use it on different computers I work on. I got it going on one computer that is connected directly to the internet (without proxy), and it works flawlessly there.

Please type in your OpenPGP passphrase...

Submitted by RS.RODES on November 1, 2007 - 10:54am

Actually I would rather not.

When I was setting up TBP I let it talk me into having a PGP passphrase. Unfortunately I used a very long one. I didn't realize I would have to type this thing in so often.

Right now I uncheck 'Sign Message' under OpenPGP and it stops bugging me for a while.

How can I make it go away?

IMAP with TBP

Submitted by PilotBill on October 29, 2007 - 2:07pm

Any thoughts on IMAP versus POP with TBP, a question I am asking because Gmail now offers a choice? I want to use the best, most reliable protocol but the advantages of IMAP seem moot if you’re using a portable email client. Furthermore, would I be giving up offline accessibility?
Thanks, Bill

AVG free version detected AZB startup page trojan for several days when I opened and closed Thunderbird Portable on PC. Write function no longer works. AVG no longer detects trojan. I have no other problems with my PC, just with Thunderbird Portable. I have reinstalled latest version, but it does not solve the problem. I do not want to switch email programs. Any advice? Thank you.
