Firefox Portable

Since 43.01 64bit no longer finds any application update

Submitted by Zee_Pants on January 1, 2016 - 11:44am

Since 43.01, Firefox fails to locate any application updates. I am on 64 bit (Win7). The firefox process running is the 64bit version

To replicate:
1. Download FirefoxPortable_43.0_English.paf.exe and unpack
2. Go to Help>About>Check for updates, it will detect an update to 43.01 (and if you go ahead it will work)

3. Download FirefoxPortable_43.0.1_English.paf (or use the updated version from above) and unpack
4. Go to Help>About>Check for updates - it will find no updates
(but there IS a 43.02, we know this for certain)

Google Voice and Video Plugin

Windows 8.1
Firefox 43

It seems that since the update to Firefox 43, the google voice and video plugin (for hangouts calls for instance) doesn't load in Firefox Portable even though it loads just fine in the local installation of Firefox. Even after reinstalling the plugin multiple times, the results are the same.

Are there some changes that we need to load this plugin now?

FF portable on the C: drive can't debug if timer scripted

Basically a FireFox portable installation on the C: drive, latest updates. Running debugger cannot set breakpoints. It breaks at the timer when any breakpoint is set. There have been times when I beat it to a breakpoint but have not identified how I did it. Any changes and reload of the page/script and we are back to square one anyway. Sad

I have downloaded "FirefoxPortableDeveloper_45.0_Alpha_2_EnglishGB_online.paf.exe" and installed it. When I run the FIrefoxPortable.exe, it shows this message:

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: firefox.exe could not be found)

Firefox, since v42, blue screens my PC

Submitted by FirefoxComment1 on December 21, 2015 - 1:45pm

Ever since Portable Firefox v42 came out I can no longer use it because it simply blue screens my computer before it ever finishes loading; it installs fine, but won't run at all. I didn't say anything before because I was waiting to see if v43 did the same thing and it does. I noticed that the filesize of the v41 install file is 43MB whilst the filesize of v43 is 93MB, more than double. I didn't save the v42 file so I don't know if whatever is in those additional 50MB is what's causing the issue. No other program causes this behavior.

[solved] AlwaysUse32Bit not working

Submitted by There is no data. on December 20, 2015 - 1:01am

I followed the advice that is presented to me as the end-user, and I changed my settings in FirefoxPortable\Other\Source, where FirefoxPortable.ini is but when I save the file in notepad, then re-launch Firefox the 32-bit version doesn't show up.

My metric for success is if I can get a game using Shockwave player to function, since Shockwave is separate from Flash, and any software that requires it now says there needs to be a plugin, which isn't loading because I'm using 64-bit Firefox.

FIXED - FF 43 64-bit won't load on WinXP x64 SP2 or Win2003 Server

Hello John,

Having the same issue as user "twoelk" stated in the FF 43 comments:

https://portableapps.com/comment/225721#comment-225721

I updated to FF 43 and only get the FF splash-screen when trying to launch. Had to acutally delete the App/Firefox64 directory to get FF 43 32-bit to launch.

I've included the SUMMARY, OS & CPU output from Piriform's SPECCY, below:
