Thunderbird Portable

Custom settings disappeared after update (1.5.0.13 -> 2.0.0.12)

Submitted by novicew on April 2, 2008 - 10:19am

Hi Guys,

I have recently updated the Thunderbird Portable from 1.5.0.13 to 2.0.0.12. Everything went smooth except the user preferences. So far the following problems were observed.

1) In the old version, it was set to delete mails older than 2 weeks. After the update, the setting has disappeared.

2) Header information switched to "All" instead of "Normal".

Is there a way to preserve custom settings? Can I deactivate "Find Updates" function. Previously I could do it by adding "user_pref("xpinstall.enabled", false); " in prefs.js.

TIA

Getting Hotmail to Work Properly

Submitted by adamdschmidt on March 29, 2008 - 9:09pm

Hi,
I've just started using portable apps. The problem I'm having is when I try to download my Hotmail email to the Portable Thunderbird client. I'm using the server:
pop3.live.com and am using the SSL connection type. I set it up using the "webmail account" settings in Thunderbird. The specific problem I'm having is that I get this message everytime I try to access my email through Thunderbird:

"Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop3.live.com responded: mailbox for swavcat@hotmail.com is not available."

Trying to recover mail - TBP

Submitted by michael0429 on March 26, 2008 - 7:04pm

After using a hotel’s internet service, TBP opens but does not display any folders and will not connect. Error message displays “could not initialize browser’s security component.. most likely cause problems with files in browser’s profile directory…” Going to account settings all appear to be in order.

Going to app folder, opening Data, I do not find any mail files.

Removing and reinstalling TB

Hello,

I need some guidance and hope someone is able to help me. I installed TB U3 flash drive and up until a few minutes ago, was using it without a problem.

I recently installed and ran a clean up registry program and do not know if this caused a problem with TB, but now when I attempt to open TB, I get a message saying that it cannot be restarted and must be re-installed. It then says that the program cannot be found.

Thunderbird damages NTFS and FAT32 on USB-HDD and Flash Drive

Submitted by Otmar on March 25, 2008 - 6:15am

Since I use TBP the same Problem:
Don't matter if I shoot down my PC or Laptop, or try to make a save release of the hardware, different files are damaged and I need to use chkdsk /f /r to repair filesystem.

The same error occours on USB-HDD with NTFS and FAT32 as well as on flash drive using FAT32.

In past i'd lost somtimes TBP system files, sometimes e-mail folders and somtimes both.

But: this error occours not, if I use TBP running on internal HDD.
(Yes, I had a lot of fun.)

Any idea????
Thanks in advance!!!

Hi all,

I had always been reluctant to use mail clients, but TBP made it grow on me to the point that I consider using regular TB on the side, as long as I can synchronize it with my TBP.

I tried to read all the old topics about it, so here is a short synthesis of what I learned:

- One can simply copy mails from one folder to the other if it is the only needed synch.

- But Synch_thunder is the way to go to really synchronize both.

-I've seen some other stuff, like using Toucan, but I did not quite figure out how to do it.
