Color Help Idea

Submitted by J Neutron on March 5, 2009 - 10:35am

I must be getting forgetful, but I have to keep going back to the help to determine the meanings of the colors for Sync.

I thought it might be a real help to put a small box under the "OK" and "Preview" buttons that would look something like this:

Black = Ignored
Red = Not Copied
Grey = Deleted
Blue = File/Folder Added
Green = File Overwritten

or make them in color...

Submitted by stanky on February 27, 2009 - 7:08am

- it shows splash screen running in commandline mode
(splash. jpg can be removed or deleted)
- after executing the backup job it writes
"everything is ok" and hangs(and uses 50% cpu, 7-zip is
not running anymore).
- the exclude list in the backup job is not used

switched back to 2.0.4

looking forward to 2.0.7
i like it

Using command line stops with flash screen displayed rather than terminating.

Submitted by fishofchaos on February 27, 2009 - 6:26am

I've been running Toucan for some time from a batch file (AutoHotKey) with no problems. After updating to the current version instead of the process finishing and the command window closing, the program stops with the portableapps flash screen displayed. Manually closing the command window closes the process and everything is fine. I'm running on Vista.

differential backups stops working after language is changed

Submitted by jose1711 on February 26, 2009 - 5:30am

tested version: 2.0.6

steps to reproduce:

- with english language setting (default) create amd save the job to make differential backups in toucan's GUI
- exit Toucan, start it again and change language to Czech
- exit Toucan, do some changes in the files to be backed up and run your Toucan job from commandline
- no changes are detected, no backup is created

identified reason:
in Jobs.ini file the Function value is supposed to be in currently set locale (!), thus Function=Differential no more works (but Function=Diferenciální does). i think this needs to be fixed.

Toucan 2.0.6 Hangs on Progress Screen for Backup Job on Windows XP

Submitted by philthestudmuffin on February 23, 2009 - 6:32pm

I recently upgraded from Toucan 2.0.4 to Toucan 2.0.6 and now the Modal Progress Screen Hangs during / after the backup. The progress screen pops up and the Compressed file is created, but the OK or Save buttons never enable and the Cancel Buttons doesn't seem to do anything. I end up having to kill the Job using Task Manager.

I am using Microsoft Windows XP Professional N Version 2002 Service Pack 3 on a Quad Core 2.66GHz CPU with 3.25 GB of RAM.

My Backup Job is configured as follows :
Type : Complete
Format : 7-Zip
Compression : Maximum (All the way to the right)

Can Toucan (sync part) detect RENAMES and MOVES of files ?

Submitted by IcePick on February 22, 2009 - 6:41am

Can Toucan detect renames and moves of files

Almost all so-called "sync" programs don't !!
They stupidly compare source and destination directory and copy necessary files.

But what I would need (and other users) is a smart detection of file moves and renames.
Imagine the following situation:

Starting with two absolute equal directories (trees) I Angel rename a file
or (b) move a file into a sub-directory.

Normal sync programs simply duplicate the "new" files to the opposite partner dirs.
As a result I have on each site now 2 (!) files (=4 files in total).
