Toucan on Vista / Vista x64

Submitted by hugZ on December 13, 2008 - 9:45am

Hi everybody!

I'm currently using Vista 32bit on my laptop and I've tried to install Toucan on it. But during the installation process I always get the error message, that the files could not be copied to the program files directory. Where is the failure? As directory "\toucan" is proposed, but I've also tried "C:\program files\toucan".

Secondly, I plan to migrate to Vista 64bit these days: can I also use Toucan on a 64bit operating system?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Win 98 SE

I cannot get Toucan 2.0.3 to work on Win 98 SE. I have a dual-boot system, and the application works on Win 2000. But when I run the already installed application on 98 SE, I do not get the program screen and the task list does not show the program. I also do not get any error messages. I have unicows.dll installed in my Win 98 SE Windows directory. Here is my Settings.ini file:

error 267

Hi, First let me say thank you John for creating such great portable apps. I tell everyone I know about your site and the work that you are doing. Anyway, the issue is that I am running Toucan to back up files that are critical to operations here in our school district. When I first started using Toucan (v2.1) I was getting the error codes listed below but Toucan would run and the files were compressed and backed up. Since v2.3 all that happens is what is listed below and nothing is compressed into the zip file.

Equalise function

Does toucan delete files in the destination directory that were deleted in the source dir? My tests say no. But some posts on this forum say yes in version 2.x.
Doesnt work for me anyways. Should it do so or how can I do it?

And: If I set rules to exclude certain folder names, those folders should be excluded automatically when syncing right?

Sync cannot overwrite files with read only attribute

Submitted by szedme on December 6, 2008 - 2:38pm

Hi,

I have tried to "Sync" in "Equalise" mode with "Retain Timestamps", "Retain Attributes", "Ignore Read-Only" flags switched on. It has started to synchronise two (almost the same) folders and after a while an error message was shown that some file could not be overwritten because the access was denied. I have checked the files showing this error message and they were read-only. Is this an error or I have just did something wrong?

Anyway, thank you for the program and its updates!

Best regards,
Pavel

Incremental Backup error

Submitted by reinhard on December 3, 2008 - 4:30pm

I created a incremental backup with different folders.

When executing the inremental backup a new file is created for each folder. Everything works fine, if the folders a big enough.

I have some small folders in my Backup-List. Therefore if there are no changes the backup is finished within some seconds.

Then toucan tries to create a new 7z-File for the next folder. Because this happens only seconds later, it still is the same minute and the new filename would be the same.

This leads to an error (cannot create file because already exists).

V2.0.2 & 2.0.3 backup update problems

Submitted by NCL on December 3, 2008 - 11:08am

The following all refers to Backup in update mode

This exists in V2.0.2 & V2.0.3

I get this error message:

System error:
Not implemented

When ever I use backup in the "update" mode when I have two or more folders off of the root drive. It finishes the first folder but when it gets to the next it stops and gives the above error. If only one folder is used it's OK. Didn't get this in V2.0.0 or V2.0.1. This happens on the second run of the update. The original run of the backup is good.

Example:
If a job includes this:

E:\Folder1\(files)
E:\Folder2\(files)

Minimizing Toucan

Submitted by TwinDude on December 2, 2008 - 5:27pm

It seems to change with every version. Sometimes I can minimize both the Toucan window and the progress window while other times only one or the other. It sure would be nice to be able to minimize them both.

Thanks
