Chrome not really portable?

Submitted by gendalf on July 20, 2022 - 2:12am

I've been installing extensions and noticed that the list isn't growing in the chrome portable\Data\profile\Default\Extensions folder. Instead there is a Local\Google as usual. It seems there's an issue that sometimes it launches itself as a nonportable? idk I've noticed that sometimes my profile is cleared or just the extensions are gone, maybe it's because of the default browser thing.. idk how to set it as default browser in windows 11, there is no button for chrome portable.

Chrome Portable Passwords feature no longer works

Submitted by myisjay on July 6, 2022 - 12:47am

I use these settings:
PortablePasswords=true
EncryptPortablePasswords=false

However, it never writes the password to the "Portable Passwords" file. It keeps using the regular profile db. If I use the same computer, the saved passwords are there. If I use a different computer, it does not know the passwords.

Hello
I wanted to download Google Chrome online without installing it, and finally, I was able to find the direct link and download it ( Here --> https://portableapps.com/node/65061 )

Now I had a question to make Google Chrome portable, I replaced this new installation folder (App\Chrome-bin\103.0.5060.53 ) with the old one( App\Chrome-bin\95.0 ) in its folder and it is working without any problems..

Pidgin - plugins support

Submitted by AbsolutelyRandom on June 19, 2022 - 2:20am

Are there any plans to introduce support for Pidgin plugins? Currently there are only three PortableApps-compatible plugins available. Manual placement of plugins in Pidgin App's folder is pointless as any further update will remove its content. How about a workaround like a "plugin" folder in the application's Data folder? The content of Data's plugin folder would be moved to App's plugin folder. On program closure it would be moved back.

Google Chrome Portable no longer can substitute Edge

Submitted by restitutororbis on June 13, 2022 - 3:35pm

Hello, been a long-time user of portable apps, kudos for the great website. I accidentally clicked on the Make default browser pop-up in Edge and that messed up the previously default Google Chrome portable. I went through two threads dealing with that but besides changing the Google Chrome to Google Chrome Portable entry in the Windows 10 settings, nothing else happened. Upon attempting to make Chrome the default browser in its settings, nothing happens. Upon trying the same in the Windows settings, also nothing happens. What is this new skulduggery and is there a way around it?

µTorrent Portable no longer exits µTorrent!

Submitted by lwc on May 28, 2022 - 5:43am

Starting up to a few weeks ago, when I right click the program's green icon and choose to quit, it fakes quitting but doesn't actually quit.
That is, the green button goes away, making it impossible to continue using the program, but Task Manager nonetheless shows uTorrent.exe still runs.
Even more so, when you re-launch uTorrentPortable.exe nothing happens, no UI pops up. This is actually what triggered me to investigate Task Manager in the first place.

Google Chrome duplicate taskbar icon

Submitted by kiwichick on May 23, 2022 - 11:11pm

Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't see any way to search the forum to find previous posts.

When Google Chrome is pinned to the taskbar why does it create a second taskbar icon when opened? Is there any way to prevent this happening? I tried using "Pin to taskbar" via the PortableApps Platform but it didn't work.
