John T. Haller pictureI wanted to make a quick blog post today to remind everyone of the importance of being an organ donor. As some long-time users know, I donated a kidney to my father back in 2000. 13 years ago today, as a matter of fact. So, I know the importance of living donor organ donation first hand.

New BYOND version, putting finishing touches on virtual PA.c drive letter app

Submitted by GamecraftAdmin on June 14, 2013 - 7:02pm

First things first, there's a new version of BYOND out. It's been out for a few weeks actually but the auto-update function of the previous version never asked to update to it and I hadn't gotten around to manually updating it and uploading the new installer.

I really have no clue where I'm supposed to be putting the new version links to update the directory listing with so I'll just put it here.

Twitter Account Change, @PortableApps for new apps, stories, big updates. @PortableAppsAll for everything

We wanted to take a minute and let everybody know that we're splitting up our twitter account into two accounts. Now that we have over 300 apps, pushing every app update announcement to Twitter makes the channel a bit too much of a firehose, too much for some Twitter fans. And the volume will only increase as we keep adding apps. So, we've decided to split things up into two Twitter accounts.

Below are all of the applications I am currently packaging. This page will likely be more up to date than the official Test Releases page (at least for my stuff). So stay tuned here to stay on the cutting edge.

Releases

These packages have been given official releases here at PortableApps.com. I may or may not be the current maintainer but I was among the original packagers.

With a few days off sick for a throat/chest infection I don't have much to do but scour Sourceforge, play games, and make a few of the more interesting ones portable (in between bouts of coughing, sleeping, and feeling like my chest is going to explode and drive my concrete-filled skull through the wall). Thus the recently added dev tests of I Have No Tomatoes and Pentobi, with hopefully more to come.

Now that we've caught up after the impact of Hurricane Sandy, we thought it would be a good time to do a 'PortableApps.com Status Update' to let everyone know what's going on. We've got new apps, an update on the first 12.0 platform beta, some more site tweaks, and more. Read on for the details

Hurricane Sandy and PortableApps.com (Updated Nov 15, 2012)

Greetings Portable-Appers,

I wanted to take a moment to update you all on the possible impact of hurricane Sandy on PortableApps.com. Firstly, our servers for our website and downloads are located outside of the affected areas, so we've got nothing to worry about there. One of our US mirrors for downloads of open source software hosted by SourceForge may be affected, but the system will automatically fail over to the other dozen plus mirrors, so users will likely not even notice. You can continue downloading the platform and apps and using the website.

Been a couple of years since I posted a blog post here at portableapps.com, so I guess I'll change that up a little.

Most of you all know I'm the main developer of PChat and PChat Portable, things are a little slow at the moment and I do apologize for that fact, been trying to balance a life, coding and well just everything in general (doesn't mean I'm giving up on PChat though, heck no I'm getting ideas on improving things :P).
