Localization Discussion

So the time has come again when I am looking for updates to the Toucan translations. The thread here details how to update an existing translation or create a new one. The pre-release which includes the latest translations can be found here.

First a few general suggestions and questions:

• Make one of the many active members in here your translation coordinator (no, not me!) to take the load off you devs and make it easier for everyone - this area is in need of someone who can dedicate a little more time to write proper guidelines etc.
• Make a "lang" tracker on SF where we (the translators) or a coordinator simply can post translation files - then all you'll need to do is grab the files and commit 'em to HG.

Ok folks,

for sometime now PChat has been stable but without localization support even though it had it's locale files there, just out of curiosity I opened up the translation file to see what could be the issue after looking in PChat's source and not finding anything wrong there, there are still references to XChat through out the translation files, so I'm going to start fresh with the localization files and very shortly I'll post my po file for people to work with, but still I would like to know who would be willing to help translate and into what language if possible.

Hi,
I would like to create Czech locale for Xenon, but need at least small advice.

I searched in the source included in xenon package and found zip file with *.po files. Ok, it is not problem for me to look for example on standard En_us file and on polish file in PSPad editor and then create a copy of the English one and add the Czech strings.

But as I see, the translation for xenon are some binary *.mo files. I also saw, that for example the chinese translation is in *.ini file and it confused me a little.

What is the right procedure?

The PortableApps.com Launcher supports multi-lingual messages to the user, and so we have some strings for translators. With the release of 2.1 coming, there are also some new strings for newly-added features.

All words starting with $ should not be changed as they are the values being passed in.

Well, it's finally time. I'm accepting any and all translations for KidSafe; I'm not aware of any limitations that could exclude a language, but I might have to change some things to finish supporting Unicode. Only time will tell.

If you are able to update one of these, please pull from the files and strings listed in the other topic.
